Jehoram was 32 years old when he became king, and he ruled for eight years in Jerusalem. He walked in the ways of Israel’s kings, just as Ahab’s dynasty had done, because he married Ahab’s daughter. He did what was evil in the Lord’s eyes. Nevertheless, because of the covenant he had made with David, the Lord wasn’t willing to destroy David’s dynasty. He had promised to preserve a lamp for David and his sons forever.

He followed the ways of the kings of Israel,(A) as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab.(B) He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David,(C) the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David.(D) He had promised to maintain a lamp(E) for him and his descendants forever.
