¹⁵ The Lord, the God of their fathers, ^(A)sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place.

¹⁵ I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, sending them ^(A)persistently, saying, ^(B)‘Turn now every one of you from his evil way, and amend your deeds, and ^(C)do not go after other gods to serve them, and then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to you and your fathers.’ ^(D)But you did not incline your ear or listen to me.

³ “For twenty-three years, ^(A)from the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day, the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken ^(B)persistently to you, ^(C)but you have not listened. ^4 (D)You have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear, although the Lord ^(E)persistently sent to you all his servants the prophets,

Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

^41 (A)And when he drew near and saw the city, ^(B)he wept over it, ⁴² saying, ^(C)“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now ^(D)they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For ^(E)the days will come upon you, when your enemies ^(F)will set up a barricade around you and ^(G)surround you and hem you in on every side ^44 (H)and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And ^(I)they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know ^(J)the time of your ^(K)visitation.”

^4 (A)Yet I persistently sent to you all my servants the prophets, saying, ‘Oh, do not do this abomination that I hate!’ ^5 (B)But they did not listen ^(C)or incline their ear, to turn from their evil and make no offerings to other gods.
