29 Then King David said to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced.^(A) The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God.

The Death of David^(A)

²⁶ David son of Jesse was king^(B) over all Israel.^{(C) 27} He ruled over Israel forty years—seven in Hebron^(D) and thirty-three in Jerusalem.^{(E) 28} He died^(F) at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.^(G)

⁶ Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful^(A) to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son^(B) to sit on his throne this very day.

⁷ “Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child^(C) and do not know how to carry out my duties.
