3 Honor widows who are (A)widows indeed, 4 but if any widow has children or grandchildren, (B)they must first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family and to [a]make some return to their parents; for this is (C)acceptable in the sight of God. 5 Now she who is a (D)widow indeed and who has been left alone, (E)has fixed her hope on God and continues in (F)petitions and prayers night and day. 6 But she who (G)lives in self-indulgence is (H)dead even while she lives. 7 (I)And command these things as well, so that they may be above reproach. 8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has (J)denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

3 Honor widows who are really widows. 4 If a widow has children or grandchildren, they should first learn their religious duty to their own family and make some repayment to their parents, for this is pleasing in God’s sight.(A) 5 The real widow, left alone, has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day,(B) 6 but the widow[a] who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives.(C) 7 Give these commands as well, so that they may be above reproach.(D) 8 And whoever does not provide for relatives, and especially for family members, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.(E)
