New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
A Good Minister of Jesus Christ
6 If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant[a] of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have followed.(A) 7 Have nothing to do with profane and foolish tales. Train yourself in godliness,(B) 8 for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.(C) 9 The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. 10 For to this end we toil and suffer reproach,[b] because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.(D)

New Living Translation
A Good Servant of Christ Jesus
6 If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters,[a] Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed. 7 Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. 8 “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” 9 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. 10 This is why we work hard and continue to struggle,[b] for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
