17 But we, brothers, being bereaved of you for a short season, in presence, not in heart, tried even harder to see your face with great desire, 18 because we wanted to come to you—indeed, I, Paul, once and again—but Satan hindered us. 19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Isn’t it even you, before our Lord Jesus[a] at his coming? 20 For you are our glory and our joy.

17 As for us, brothers and sisters, when for a short time we were made orphans by being separated from you—in person, not in heart—we longed with great eagerness to see you face to face.(A) 18 For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, wanted to again and again—but Satan blocked our way.(B) 19 For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you?(C) 20 Yes, you are our glory and joy!
