We always give thanks to God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labor of love and perseverance of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father. We know, brothers[a] loved by God, that you are chosen, and that our Good News came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and with much assurance. You know what kind of men we showed ourselves to be among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, so that you became an example to all who believe in Macedonia and in Achaia. For from you the word of the Lord has been declared, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone out, so that we need not to say anything. For they themselves report concerning us what kind of a reception we had from you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead: Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Paul’s Prayer for the Thessalonians

We always thank God for all of you when we mention you in our prayers. In the presence of our God and Father, we constantly remember how your faith is active,[a] your love is hard at work,[b] and your hope in our Lord Jesus the Messiah[c] is enduring.[d] Brothers whom God loves, we know that he has chosen you, for the gospel we brought[e] did not come to you in words only, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with deep conviction. Indeed,[f] you know what kind of people we proved to be while we were with you, acting on your behalf.

You became imitators of us and of the Lord. In spite of a great deal of suffering, you welcomed the word with the joy that the Holy Spirit produces.[g] As a result, you became a model for all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. From you the word of the Lord has spread out not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place where your faith in God has become known. As a result, we do not need to say anything about it.

For people[h] keep telling us what kind of welcome you gave us and how you turned away from idols to serve a living and true God 10 and to wait for his Son whom he raised from the dead to come back[i] from heaven. This Jesus is the one who rescues us from the coming wrath.
