13 So Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand. (A)And he went out and came in before the people. 14 And David (B)had success in all his undertakings, (C)for the Lord was with him. 15 And when Saul saw that (D)he had great success, he stood in fearful awe of him. 16 (E)But all Israel and Judah loved David, for he went out and came in before them.

13 So Saul removed him from his presence,[a] and made him commander of a thousand, so he[b] marched in and out at the front of the army.[c] 14 And David was achieving success in all his ways and Yahweh was with him, 15 but when Saul saw that he was very successful, he was severely threatened by him.[d] 16 However, all of Israel and Judah were loving David, for he was going forth and marching ahead of them.
