[a]Now to sum up, (A)all of you be like-minded, sympathetic, (B)brotherly, (C)tender-hearted, and (D)humble in spirit; (E)not returning evil for evil or (F)reviling for reviling, but [b]giving a (G)blessing instead, for (H)you were called for the very purpose that you might (I)inherit a blessing. 10 For,

11 (K)He must turn away from evil and do good;

12 (L)For the eyes of the [c]Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their prayer,
But the face of the [d]Lord is against those who do evil.”

Finally, all of you be of one mind, sympathetic, lovers of your fellow believers, compassionate, and modest in your opinion of yourselves. Don’t pay back evil for evil or insult for insult. Instead, give blessing in return. You were called to do this so that you might inherit a blessing. 10 For

those who want to love life
    and see good days
should keep their tongue from evil speaking
    and their lips from speaking lies.
11 They should shun evil and do good;
    seek peace and chase after it.
12 The Lord’s eyes are on the righteous
    and his ears are open to their prayers.
But the Lord cannot tolerate those who do evil.[a]
