For this is contained in [a]Scripture:

(A)Behold, I am laying in Zion a choice stone, a (B)precious cornerstone,
And the one who believes in [b]Him will not be [c]put to shame.”

(C)This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for unbelievers,

(D)A stone which the builders (E)rejected,
This became the [d]chief cornerstone,”

and,

(F)A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense”;

(G)for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, (H)and to this they were also appointed.

This is why it says in Scripture:

“Look! I am laying a chosen, precious cornerstone[a] in Zion.
    The one who believes in him will never be ashamed.”[b]

Therefore he is precious to you who believe, but to those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone,[c]
a stone they stumble over
    and a rock they trip on.”[d]

They keep on stumbling because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
