¹⁸ For ^(A)Christ also ^[a]suffered for sins ^(B)once for all time, the just for the unjust, so that He might ^(C)bring us to God, having been put to death ^(D)in the flesh, but made alive ^(E)in the ^[b]spirit; ¹⁹ in ^[c]which He also went and made proclamation to the spirits in prison, ²⁰ who once were disobedient when the ^(F)patience of God ^(G)kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of ^(H)the ark, in which a few, that is, ^(I)eight ^(J)persons, were brought safely through the water.

⁴ For ^(A)if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into ^[a]hell and ^(B)committed them to ^[b]pits of darkness, held for judgment; ⁵ and did not spare ^(C)the ancient world, but protected ^(D)Noah, a ^[c]preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a ^(E)flood upon the world of the ungodly;

^9 (A)then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from ^[a]a trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the ^(B)day of judgment, ¹⁰ and especially those who ^[b](C)indulge the flesh in its corrupt passion, and ^(D)despise ^[c]authority.

^[d]Reckless, ^(E)self-centered, they ^(F)speak abusively of angelic ^[e]majesties without trembling,

⁶ And ^(A)angels who did not keep their own domain but abandoned their proper dwelling place, these He has ^(B)kept in eternal restraints under darkness for the judgment of the great day, ⁷ just as ^(C)Sodom and Gomorrah and the ^(D)cities around them, since they in the same way as these angels indulged in sexual perversion and ^(E)went after ^[a]strange flesh, are exhibited as an ^[b](F)example in undergoing the ^(G)punishment of eternal fire.
