and he who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

To you therefore who believe, he is precious, but for those who do not believe,

“The very stone which the builders rejected

and

“A stone that will make men stumble,
a rock that will make them fall”;

for they stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

For in Scripture it says:

and the one who trusts in him
    will never be put to shame.”[a](B)

Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,(C)

“The stone the builders rejected(D)
    has become the cornerstone,”[b](E)

and,

“A stone that causes people to stumble
    and a rock that makes them fall.”[c](F)

They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.(G)
