34 During Ahab’s reign,[a] Hiel the Bethelite rebuilt Jericho. Abiram, his firstborn son, died when he laid the foundation;[b] Segub, his youngest son, died when he erected its gates,[c] in keeping with the Lord’s message that he had spoken through Joshua son of Nun.[d]

34 (A)In his days Hiel of Bethel built (B)Jericho. He laid its foundation at the cost of Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.
