14 This is (A)the confidence which we have [a]before Him, that, (B)if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, (C)we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

16 If anyone sees his brother or sister [b]committing a sin not leading to death, (D)he shall ask and [c]God will, for him, give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. (E)There is sin leading to death; (F)I am not saying that he should ask about that. 17 (G)All unrighteousness is sin, and (H)there is sin not leading to death.

16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray that God[a] would give him life. This applies to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not telling you to pray about that. 17 Every kind of wrongdoing is sin, yet there are sins that do not lead to death.
