4 You are from God, (A)little children, and (B)have overcome them; because (C)greater is He who is in you than (D)he who is in the world. 5 (E)They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world hears them. 6 (F)We are from God. (G)The one who knows God hears us; (H)the one who is not from God does not hear us. From this we know (I)the spirit of truth and (J)the spirit of error.

4 You are from God, dear children, and you have overcome the false prophets,[a] because the one in you is greater than the one in the world. 5 They are from the world. That is why they speak from a worldly perspective and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. The one who knows God listens to us, but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. That is how we can distinguish between the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
