Everyone who commits sin practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. You know that he was revealed so that he might take away sins,[a](A) and there is no sin in him.(B) Everyone who remains in him(C) does not sin;[b](D) everyone who sins[c] has not seen him or known him.

Everyone who keeps living in sin also practices disobedience. In fact, sin is disobedience. You know that the Messiah[a] was revealed to take away sins,[b] and there is not any sin in him. No one who remains in union with him keeps on sinning. The one who keeps on sinning hasn’t seen him or known him.
