Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three who testify:[a] the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God’s testimony which he has testified concerning his Son.

This is the one who came by water and blood(B)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.(C) For there are three(D) that testify: the[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. We accept human testimony,(E) but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God,(F) which he has given about his Son.
