15 But I have (A)used none of these things. And I am not writing these things so that it will be done so in my case, for it would be better for me to die than have anyone make (B)my boast an empty one. 16 For if I proclaim the gospel, I have nothing to boast, for (C)I am under compulsion. For woe is me if I do not proclaim (D)the gospel. 17 For if I do this voluntarily, I have a (E)reward; but if against my will, I have a (F)stewardship entrusted to me. 18 What then is my (G)reward? That, when I proclaim the gospel, I may offer the gospel (H)without charge, so as (I)not to make full use of my authority in the gospel.

15 But I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing this to secure any such provision. For I would rather die than have any one deprive me of my ground for boasting. 16 For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! 17 For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission. 18 What then is my reward? Just this: that in my preaching I may make the gospel free of charge, not making full use of my right in the gospel.
