18 Now some have become [a](A)arrogant, as though I were not (B)coming to you. 19 But I (C)will come to you soon, (D)if the Lord wills, and I shall find out, not the [b]words of those who are (E)arrogant but their power. 20 For the kingdom of God does (F)not consist in [c]words but in power. 21 What do you desire? (G)Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a spirit of gentleness?

Immorality Rebuked

It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has (H)his father’s wife. [d]You (I)have become [e]arrogant and [f]have not (J)mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be (K)removed from your midst.

For I, on my part, though (L)absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. (M)In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and [g]I with you in spirit, (N)with the power of our Lord Jesus, I have decided to (O)deliver such a one to (P)Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in (Q)the day of the Lord [h]Jesus.

18 Some of you have become arrogant,(A) as if I were not coming to you.(B) 19 But I will come to you very soon,(C) if the Lord is willing,(D) and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have. 20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of(E) talk but of power.(F) 21 What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline,(G) or shall I come in love and with a gentle spirit?

Dealing With a Case of Incest

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father’s wife.(H) And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning(I) and have put out of your fellowship(J) the man who has been doing this? For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit.(K) As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus(L) on the one who has been doing this. So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, hand this man over(M) to Satan(N) for the destruction of the flesh,[a][b] so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.(O)
