28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

28 And God has placed in the church(A) first of all apostles,(B) second prophets,(C) third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing,(D) of helping, of guidance,(E) and of different kinds of tongues.(F) 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues[a]?(G) Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire(H) the greater gifts.

Love Is Indispensable

And yet I will show you the most excellent way.

13 If I speak in the tongues[b](I) of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy(J) and can fathom all mysteries(K) and all knowledge,(L) and if I have a faith(M) that can move mountains,(N) but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor(O) and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[c](P) but do not have love, I gain nothing.
