Caleb’s Family

18 Caleb son of Hezron ·had [fathered] children by his wife Azubah and by Jerioth [C possibly two names for the same woman]. Caleb and Azubah’s sons were Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon. 19 When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath. They ·had [L gave birth to] a son named Hur, 20 who was the father of Uri, who was the father of Bezalel.

21 Later, when Hezron was sixty years old, he married the daughter of Makir, Gilead’s father. Hezron ·had sexual relations with [L went in to] Makir’s daughter, and she ·had [L gave birth to] a son named Segub. 22 Segub was the father of Jair. Jair ·controlled [held; owned; ruled] twenty-three cities in the ·country [land; territory] of Gilead. 23 (But Geshur and Aram ·captured [took] the Towns of Jair, as well as Kenath and the ·small towns [villages] around it—sixty towns in all.) All these were descendants of Makir, the father of Gilead.

24 After Hezron died ·in Caleb Ephrathah, his wife Abijah [or Caleb had sexual relations with Ephrath, his father Hezron’s wife, and she] ·had [L gave birth to] his son, named Ashhur. Ashhur became the father of Tekoa.

18 And Caleb the son of Hezron had sons by his wife Azubah and by Jerioth. 21 Later, when Hezron was sixty years old, he married the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, and she bore him Segub. 22 Segub became the father of Jair, who [later] had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. 23 But Geshur and Aram took from them Havvoth-jair, with Kenath and its villages, sixty towns in all. All these were the sons (descendants) of Machir, the father of Gilead. 24 After Hezron died in Caleb-ephrathah, Abijah, Hezron’s wife, bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.
