So David said to gather (A)the sojourners who were in the land of Israel, and (B)he [a]appointed [b]stonecutters to hew out stones to build the house of God. And David (C)prepared large quantities of iron [c]to make the nails for the doors of the gates and for the clamps, and more (D)bronze than could be weighed; and timbers of cedar logs beyond number, for (E)the Sidonians and Tyrians brought large quantities of cedar timber to David. And David said, “My son (F)Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for Yahweh shall be highly exalted, for a name and beauty throughout all lands. Therefore now I will make preparation for it.” So David made ample preparations before his death.

David’s Preparations for the Temple

So David gave orders to gather the foreigners that were in the land of Israel,(A) and he appointed stonecutters to cut finished stones for building God’s house.(B) David supplied a great deal of iron to make the nails for the doors of the gateways and for the fittings, together with an immeasurable quantity of bronze,(C) and innumerable cedar logs because the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought a large quantity of cedar logs to David.(D) David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly great and famous and glorious in all the lands.(E) Therefore, I must make provision for it.” So David made lavish preparations for it before his death.
