7 Voici maintenant ce que tu diras à mon serviteur David : « Ainsi parle l’Eternel, le Seigneur des armées célestes : Je suis allé te chercher dans les pâturages où tu gardais les moutons pour faire de toi le chef de mon peuple Israël[a]. 8 Je t’ai soutenu dans toutes tes entreprises et je t’ai débarrassé de tous tes ennemis. Je te ferai un nom glorieux comme celui des grands de la terre. 9 J’attribuerai un territoire à mon peuple Israël où je l’implanterai pour qu’il puisse habiter chez lui et qu’il ne soit plus inquiété et maltraité comme auparavant par des hommes méchants, 10 comme à l’époque où j’avais établi des chefs pour mon peuple Israël. Je soumettrai tous tes ennemis. Enfin, je t’annonce que je te bâtirai une dynastie[b]. 11 Quand le moment sera venu pour toi d’aller rejoindre tes ancêtres, j’établirai après toi l’un de tes descendants, l’un de tes fils, pour te succéder comme roi, et j’affermirai son autorité royale[c]. 12 C’est lui qui me construira un temple[d] et je maintiendrai toujours son trône. 13 Je serai pour lui un père, et il sera pour moi un fils[e] ; je ne lui retirerai jamais ma faveur, comme je l’ai retirée à celui qui t’a précédé. 14 Je le maintiendrai pour toujours dans ma maison et dans mon royaume, et son trône sera inébranlable à perpétuité. »
15 Nathan rapporta fidèlement à David toutes ces paroles et toute cette révélation.

7 Maintenant tu diras à mon serviteur David: Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Je t'ai pris au pâturage, derrière les brebis, pour que tu fusses chef de mon peuple d'Israël;
8 j'ai été avec toi partout où tu as marché, j'ai exterminé tous tes ennemis devant toi, et j'ai rendu ton nom semblable au nom des grands qui sont sur la terre;
9 j'ai donné une demeure à mon peuple d'Israël, et je l'ai planté pour qu'il y soit fixé et ne soit plus agité, pour que les méchants ne le détruisent plus comme auparavant
10 et comme à l'époque où j'avais établi des juges sur mon peuple d'Israël. J'ai humilié tous tes ennemis. Et je t'annonce que l'Éternel te bâtira une maison.
11 Quand tes jours seront accomplis et que tu iras auprès de tes pères, j'élèverai ta postérité après toi, l'un de tes fils, et j'affermirai son règne.
12 Ce sera lui qui me bâtira une maison, et j'affermirai pour toujours son trône.
13 Je serai pour lui un père, et il sera pour moi un fils; et je ne lui retirerai point ma grâce, comme je l'ai retirée à celui qui t'a précédé.
14 Je l'établirai pour toujours dans ma maison et dans mon royaume, et son trône sera pour toujours affermi.
15 Nathan rapporta à David toutes ces paroles et toute cette vision.

7 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler(A) over my people Israel. 8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the names of the greatest men on earth. 9 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning 10 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders(B) over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies.
“‘I declare to you that the Lord will build a house for you: 11 When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He is the one who will build(C) a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.(D) 13 I will be his father,(E) and he will be my son.(F) I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. 14 I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne(G) will be established forever.(H)’”
15 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.

7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the Lord will build thee an house.
11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.
15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
