2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

² And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.

³ And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.

⁴ These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,

⁵ and before every plant of the field was in the earth, and before every herb of the field grew; for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

⁶ But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

⁷ And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

⁸ And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.

⁹ And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

¹⁰ And a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from thence it was parted and became four heads.

¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

¹² And the gold of that land is good, and there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

¹³ And the name of the second river is Gihon; the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush.

¹⁴ And the name of the third river is Hiddekel; that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

¹⁵ And the Lord God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

¹⁶ And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat;

¹⁷ but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it. For in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die.”

¹⁸ And the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper meet for him.”

¹⁹ And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air, and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

²⁰ And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper meet for him.

²¹ And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof.

²² And the rib which the Lord God had taken from man, made He a woman and brought her unto the man.

²³ And Adam said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh.

²⁵ And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

16 And He said also unto His disciples, “There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.

² And he called him and said unto him, ‘How is it that I hear this of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship, for thou mayest be no longer steward.’

³ Then the steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do? For my lord taketh away from me the stewardship. I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.

⁴ I am resolved what to do, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’

⁵ So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, ‘How much owest thou unto my lord?’

⁶ And he said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ And he said to him, ‘Take thy bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’

⁷ Then said he to another, ‘And how much owest thou?’ And he said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ And he said unto him, ‘Take thy bill and write fourscore.’

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely; for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

⁹ And I say unto you, make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness, that when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

¹⁰ He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in the least, is unjust also in much.

¹¹ If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

¹² And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?

¹³ No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things, and they derided Him.

¹⁵ And He said unto them, “Ye are they who justify yourselves before men, but God knoweth your hearts. For that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁶ “The Law and the Prophets were until John. Since that time the Kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

¹⁷ And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than one tittle of the law to fail.

¹⁸ “Whosoever putteth away his wife and marrieth another committeth adultery; and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

¹⁹ “There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.

²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores

²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

²² And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried.

²³ And in hell, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.

²⁴ And he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’

²⁵ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime received thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and thou art tormented.

²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that they who would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there.’

²⁷ Then he said, ‘I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house,

²⁸ for I have five brethren, that he may testify unto them lest they also come into this place of torment.’

²⁹ Abraham said unto him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’

³⁰ And he said, ‘Nay, father Abraham; but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.’

³¹ And Abraham said unto him, ‘If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.’”

15 Then drew near unto Him all the publicans and sinners to hear Him.

² And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, “This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them.”

³ And He spoke this parable unto them, saying,

⁴ “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost until he find it?

⁵ And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

⁶ And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbors, saying unto them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’

⁷ I say unto you that likewise more joy shall be in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth, than over ninety and nine just persons who need no repentance.

⁸ “Or what woman, having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle and sweep the house and seek diligently until she find it?

⁹ And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost!’

¹⁰ Likewise I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.”

¹¹ And He said, “A certain man had two sons.

¹² And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me.’ And he divided unto them his estate.

¹³ And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

¹⁴ And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land, and he began to be in want.

¹⁵ And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine.

¹⁶ And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine ate, and no man gave unto him.

¹⁷ And when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father and will say unto him, “Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before thee,

¹⁹ and am no more worthy to be called thy son. Make me as one of thy hired servants.”’

²⁰ And he arose and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

²¹ And the son said unto him, ‘Father, I have sinned against Heaven and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.’

²² But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring forth the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet.

²³ And bring hither the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;

²⁴ for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to be merry.

²⁵ “Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing.

²⁶ And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant.

²⁷ And he said unto him, ‘Thy brother is come, and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.’

²⁸ And he was angry and would not go in; therefore came his father out and entreated him.

²⁹ And he answering said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years have I served thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends.

³⁰ But as soon as this thy son was come who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.’

³¹ And he said unto him, ‘Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.

³² It was meet that we should make merry and be glad; for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.’”

5 And seeing the multitudes, He went up onto a mountain; and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him.

² And He opened His mouth and taught them, saying,

³ “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

⁴ Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

⁶ Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.

⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

¹⁰ Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for My sake.

¹² Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in Heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.

¹³ “Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and to be trodden under foot of men.

¹⁴ “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

¹⁵ Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.

¹⁷ “Think not that I am come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

¹⁸ For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled.

¹⁹ Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.

²⁰ For I say unto you that unless your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

²¹ “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old, ‘Thou shalt not kill,’ and ‘Whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.’

²² But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, ‘Raca,’ shall be in danger of the council; but whosoever shall say, ‘Thou fool,’ shall be in danger of hell fire.

²³ Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee,

²⁴ leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way. First be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

²⁵ “Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art on the way with him, lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

²⁶ Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence until thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

²⁷ “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old, ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery.’

²⁸ But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

²⁹ And if thy right eye cause thee to fall, pluck it out and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

³⁰ And if thy right hand cause thee to fall, cut it off and cast it from thee; for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

³¹ “It hath been said, ‘Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement.’

³² But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery; and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

³³ “Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old times, ‘Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths.’

³⁴ But I say unto you, swear not at all: neither by Heaven, for it is God’s throne;

³⁵ nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; neither by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

³⁶ Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

³⁷ But let your communication be ‘yea, yea’ or ‘nay, nay’; for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

³⁸ “Ye have heard that it hath been said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’

³⁹ But I say unto you that ye resist not evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

⁴⁰ And if any man will sue thee at the law and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

⁴¹ And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him two.

⁴² Give to him that asketh thee; and from him that would borrow of thee, turn not thou away.

⁴³ “Ye have heard that it hath been said, ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy.’

⁴⁴ But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you,

⁴⁵ that ye may be the children of your Father who is in Heaven. For He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

⁴⁶ For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same?

⁴⁷ And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so?

⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in Heaven is perfect.
