Давид вновь щадит жизнь Саула
26 Зифиты пришли к Саулу в Гиву и сказали:
– Разве Давид не прячется на холме Хахила, что напротив Иешимона?
2 Саул спустился в пустыню Зиф с тремя тысячами лучших израильтян, чтобы искать там Давида. 3 Саул разбил свой лагерь рядом с дорогой на холм Хахила, что напротив Иешимона, но Давид стоял в пустыне. – Не губи его. Кто может поднять руку на Господнего помазанника и остаться невиновным? 10 Верно, как и то, что жив Господь, – сказал он, – Господь Сам сразит его. Либо придет его время, и он умрет, либо он пойдет в бой и погибнет. 11 Но не приведи Господь мне поднять руку на Господнего помазанника. Возьми-ка копье и кувшин для воды у его изголовья, и пойдем.
12 Давид взял копье и кувшин для воды у изголовья Саула, и они ушли. Никто не видел и не знал об этом, и никто не проснулся. Все они спали, потому что Господь погрузил их в глубокий сон. 13 Давид перешел на другую сторону и встал на вершине горы вдали, между ними было большое расстояние. 14 Он закричал войску и Авнеру, сыну Нира:
– Авнер! Разве ты не ответишь мне?
Авнер ответил:
– Кто ты такой, что зовешь царя?
15 Давид сказал:
– Ведь ты мужчина? Кто в Израиле подобен тебе? Почему же ты не охранял твоего господина царя? Некто из народа приходил, чтобы погубить твоего господина царя. 16 Скверно же ты поступил! Верно, как и то, что жив Господь, ты и твои люди заслуживаете смерти, потому что вы не охраняли вашего господина, помазанника Господа. Посмотри вокруг себя. – Твой ли это голос, Давид, сын мой?

Что я сделал и в каком зле повинен? 19 Пусть же мой господин, царь, выслушает слова своего слуги. Если Господь настроил тебя против меня, то я совершу жертвоприношение Ему. Но если это сделали люди, пусть они будут прокляты перед Господом! Они прогнали меня от моей доли в Господнем наследии и сказали: «Ступай, служи другим богам!»[a] 20 Не дай же моей крови пролиться на землю вдали от Господа. Царь Израиля ищет меня, как блоху, гоняется за мной по горам, как за куропаткой.
21 Саул сказал:
– Я согрешил. Вернись, Давид, сын мой. Сегодня моя жизнь была для тебя драгоценной, и я не буду больше пытаться причинить тебе вред. Я поступал как безумец и совершил огромную ошибку.
22 – Вот копье царя, – ответил Давид. – Пусть кто-нибудь из твоих молодых слуг перейдет сюда и возьмет его. 23 Господь вознаграждает каждого человека за его праведность и верность. Сегодня Господь отдал тебя в мои руки, но я не поднял руки на Господнего помазанника. 24 Пусть как твоя жизнь была сегодня для меня драгоценной, так ценится у Господа моя жизнь, и пусть Он избавит меня от всякой беды.
25 Саул сказал Давиду:
– Благословен ты, сын мой Давид, ты совершишь великие дела и, несомненно, преуспеешь.
И Давид пошел своим путем, а Саул вернулся домой.

26 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?
2 Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.
5 And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.
6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.
8 Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.
9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless?
10 David said furthermore, As the Lord liveth, the Lord shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.
11 The Lord forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.
12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the Lord was fallen upon them.
13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:
14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?
15 And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.
16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the Lord liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the Lord's anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.
17 And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.
18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?
19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the Lord have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the Lord; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, Go, serve other gods.
20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.
21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.
22 And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.
23 The Lord render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the Lord's anointed.
24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the Lord, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.
25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

26 সীফের লোকরা শৌলের সঙ্গে দেখা করতে গিবিয়ায় গেল। তারা শৌলকে বলল, “দায়ূদ হখীলার পাহাড়ে লুকিয়ে রয়েছে। যেশিমোনের ঠিক অপর দিকেই সেই পাহাড়।”
2 সীফের মরুভূমিতে শৌল নেমে এলেন। সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল থেকে শৌল 3000 সৈন্য বেছে নিয়েছিলেন। এদের নিয়ে শৌল সীফের মরু অঞ্চলে দায়ূদকে খুঁজতে লাগলেন। 3 হখীলা পাহাড়ে শৌল তাঁবু বসালেন। যেশিমোনের রাস্তার ধারেই ছিল সেই তাঁবু।
দায়ূদ মরুভূমির মধ্যে বাস করতেন। তিনি জানতে পারলেন যে শৌল সেখানেও তাঁর পিছু নিয়েছেন। 4 তখন তিনি গুপ্তচর পাঠালেন। শৌল যে হখীলায় এসেছেন সে খবর তিনি জানতেন। 5 দায়ূদ শৌলের শিবিরে উপস্থিত হলেন। তিনি দেখলেন কোথায় শৌল আর অব্নের ঘুমাচ্ছিলেন। (অব্নের, শৌলের সেনাপতি, নেরের পুত্র।) শৌল শিবিরের মাঝখানে ঘুমোচ্ছিলেন। সৈন্যরা তাঁর চারপাশে ছিল।
6 দায়ূদ হিত্তীয় অহীমেলক আর সরূয়ার পুত্র অবীশয়ের সঙ্গে কথা বললেন। (অবীশয় যোয়াবের ভাই।) তিনি তাদের বললেন, “কে আমার সঙ্গে শৌলের শিবিরে যাবে?”
অবীশয় উত্তরে বলল, “আমি তোমার সঙ্গে যাব।”
7 রাত হলে দায়ূদ ও অবীশয় শৌলের শিবিরে গেলেন। শৌল শিবিরের মাঝখানে ঘুমোচ্ছিলেন। তাঁর মাথার কাছে মাটিতে তাঁর বর্শা গাঁথা ছিল। অব্নের ও অন্যান্য সৈন্যরা শৌলের চারপাশে ঘুমাচ্ছিল। 8 অবীশয় দায়ূদকে বলল, “আজ ঈশ্বরের দয়ায় আপনি শত্রু জয় করবেন। শৌলের বর্শা দিয়ে শৌলকে মাটিতে গেঁথে দিতে চাই। শুধু একবার আপনি এই কাজটা আমায় করতে দিন।”
9 দায়ূদ অবীশয়কে বললেন, “শৌলকে হত্যা কোরো না। প্রভু যাকে রাজা বলে মনোনীত করেছেন তাকে কেউ যেন আঘাত না করে। আঘাত করলে সে অবশ্যই শাস্তি পাবে। 10 প্রভু যখন আছেন তখন তিনি নিশ্চয়ই নিজেই শৌলকে শাস্তি দেবেন। তাছাড়া শৌলের স্বাভাবিক মৃত্যুও হতে পারে। কিংবা এও হতে পারে যুদ্ধেই শৌল মারা যাবেন। 11 সে যাই হোক্ আমি চাই না যে প্রভু তাঁর নির্বাচিত রাজাকে আমার হাত দিয়ে হত হতে দেন। এখন শৌলের মাথার কাছে বর্শা আর জলের জায়গাটা তুলে নাও। তারপর আমরা চলে যাব।”
12 সেই মত দায়ূদ বর্শা আর কুঁজো নেবার পর অবীশয়কে সঙ্গে নিয়ে তাঁবু থেকে বাইরে এলেন। কেউ কিছু জানতে পারল না। কেউ ঘুম থেকে জেগেও উঠল না। শৌল আর সৈন্যরা সকলেই গাঢ় ঘুমে ঢলে পড়েছিল কারণ প্রভু তাদের গাঢ় ঘুমে আক্রান্ত করেছিলেন।
দায়ূদ আবার শৌলকে অপ্রস্তুতে ফেললেন
13 দায়ূদ উপত্যকা পেরিয়ে পাহাড়ের শিখরে গিয়ে দাঁড়ালেন। সেই জায়গা থেকে শৌলের শিবির অনেক দূরে ছিল। 14 দায়ূদ সৈন্যসামন্ত আর নেরের পুত্র অব্নেরের দিকে চিৎকার করে বললেন, “অব্নের জবাব দাও।”
অব্নের উত্তর দিলো, “কে তুমি? কেন তুমি রাজাকে ডাকছ?”
15 দায়ূদ বললেন, “তুমি তো একজন মানুষ, তাই না? ইস্রায়েলের আর পাঁচটা মানুষের চেয়ে তুমি সেরা, ঠিক কি না? তাহলে কেন তুমি তোমার মনিবকে পাহারা দিলে না? একজন সাধারণ মানুষ তাঁবুতে ঢুকে তোমাদের মনিবকে খুন করতে এসেছিল। 16 তুমি মস্ত বড় ভুল করেছ। আমি প্রভুর নামে শপথ করে বলছি, তোমাকে আর তোমার লোকদের অবশ্যই মরতে হবে। তুমি কি জানো কেন? কারণ তুমি প্রভুর নির্বাচিত রাজা অর্থাৎ তোমার মনিবকে রক্ষা কর নি। শৌলের মাথার কাছে কোথায় রাজার বর্শা আর জলের কুঁজো আছে? খুঁজে দেখো, কোথায়?”
17 শৌল দায়ূদের স্বর চিনতেন। তিনি বললেন, “বৎস দায়ূদ, তুমিই কি কথা বলছ?”
দায়ূদ উত্তর দিলেন, “হে প্রভু, হে রাজন, আপনি আমারই কন্ঠস্বর শুনছেন।” 18 দায়ূদ আবার বললেন, “আপনি কেন আমার পিছু নিয়েছেন? আমি কি অন্যায় করেছি? কি আমার দোষ? 19 হে আমার মনিব, হে রাজা, আমার কথা শুনুন। আপনি যদি আমার ওপর রাগ করে থাকেন এবং প্রভু যদি এর কারণ হয়ে থাকেন তাহলে তাঁকে তাঁর নৈবেদ্য গ্রহণ করতে দিন। কিন্তু যদি লোকদের কারণে আপনি আমার ওপর রাগ করে থাকেন, তাহলে প্রভু যেন তাদের মন্দ করেন। প্রভু আমায় যে দেশ দান করেছেন সেই দেশ আমি লোকদেরই চাপে ত্যাগ করতে বাধ্য হয়েছি। তারা আমায় বলেছে, যাও, ভিনদেশীদের সঙ্গে বাস করো। সেখানে গিয়ে অন্য মূর্ত্তির পূজা করো। 20 শুনুন, প্রভুর সান্নিধ্য থেকে দূরে সরিয়ে নিয়ে আমায় মরতে দেবেন না। ইস্রায়েলের রাজা একটা নীল মাছি খুঁজতে বেরিয়ে এসেছেন। যেমন কেউ পর্বতে উঠে সামান্য একটা তিতির পাখীকে তাড়া করে শিকার করে।”
21 তখন শৌল বললেন, “আমি পাপ করেছি। বৎস দায়ূদ, তুমি ফিরে এসো। আজ তুমি দেখালে, তোমার কাছে আমার জীবন কত প্রয়োজনীয়। আমি তোমাকে হত্যা করব না। আমি বোকার মত কাজ করেছি। কি ভুলই আমি করেছি!”
22 দায়ূদ বললেন, “এই দেখুন রাজার বর্শা। আপনার একজন যুবককে এখানে পাঠিয়ে দিন। সে এটা নিয়ে যাক্। 23 প্রভু প্রতিটি মানুষকে তার কর্মের জন্য প্রতিদান দিয়ে থাকেন। যদি সে উচিৎ কাজ করে তাহলে তিনি তাকে পুরস্কার দেন আর যদি সে অন্যায় করে তাহলে তিনি তাকে শাস্তি দেন। আজ তিনি আপনাকে হারানোর জন্য আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন। কিন্তু আমি তাঁর মনোনীত রাজাকে কিছুতেই আঘাত করতে পারি না। 24 আজ আপনাকে আমি দেখালাম যে, আপনার জীবন আমার কাছে কত মূল্যবান। একইভাবে প্রভুও দেখাবেন, তাঁর কাছে আমার জীবনও কত মূল্যবান। প্রভু আমাকে সব রকম বিপদ থেকে রক্ষা করবেন।”
25 শৌল দায়ূদকে বললেন, “বৎস দায়ূদ, ঈশ্বর তোমার মঙ্গল করুন। তুমি অনেক মহৎ কর্ম করবে এবং তুমি সফল হবে।”
দায়ূদ নিজের পথে চলে গেলেন, আর শৌল তাঁর জায়গায় ফিরে গেলেন।

David Spares Saul a Second Time
26 Now the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, (A)“Is David not hiding in the hill of Hachilah, opposite Jeshimon?” 2 Then Saul arose and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, having (B)three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph. 3 And Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is opposite Jeshimon, by the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. 4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had indeed come.
5 So David arose and came to the place where Saul had encamped. And David saw the place where Saul lay, and (C)Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. Now Saul lay within the camp, with the people encamped all around him. 6 Then David answered, and said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai (D)the son of Zeruiah, brother of (E)Joab, saying, “Who will (F)go down with me to Saul in the camp?”
And (G)Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night; and there Saul lay sleeping within the camp, with his spear stuck in the ground by his head. And Abner and the people lay all around him. 8 Then Abishai said to David, (H)“God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore, please, let me strike him [a]at once with the spear, right to the earth; and I will not have to strike him a second time!”
9 But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; (I)for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?” 10 David said furthermore, “As the Lord lives, (J)the Lord shall strike him, or (K)his day shall come to die, or he shall (L)go out to battle and perish. 11 (M)The Lord forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. But please, take now the spear and the jug of water that are by his head, and let us go.” 12 So David took the spear and the jug of water by Saul’s head, and they got away; and no man saw or knew it or awoke. For they were all asleep, because (N)a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen on them.
13 Now David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of a hill afar off, a great distance being between them. 14 And David called out to the people and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, “Do you not answer, Abner?”
Then Abner answered and said, “Who are you, calling out to the king?”
15 So David said to Abner, “Are you not a man? And who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not guarded your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy your lord the king. 16 This thing that you have done is not good. As the Lord lives, you deserve to die, because you have not guarded your master, the Lord’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the jug of water that was by his head.”
17 Then Saul knew David’s voice, and said, (O)“Is that your voice, my son David?”
David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.” 18 And he said, (P)“Why does my lord thus pursue his servant? For what have I done, or what evil is in my hand? 19 Now therefore, please, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the Lord has (Q)stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, (R)for they have driven me out this day from sharing in the (S)inheritance of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’ 20 So now, do not let my blood fall to the earth before the face of the Lord. For the king of Israel has come out to seek (T)a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.”
21 Then Saul said, (U)“I have sinned. Return, my son David. For I will harm you no more, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Indeed I have played the fool and erred exceedingly.”
22 And David answered and said, “Here is the king’s spear. Let one of the young men come over and get it. 23 (V)May the Lord (W)repay every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the Lord delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch out my hand against the Lord’s anointed. 24 And indeed, as your life was valued much this day in my eyes, so let my life be valued much in the eyes of the Lord, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.”
25 Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still (X)prevail.”
So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
