^6 (A)But godliness actually is a means of ^(B)great gain when accompanied by ^(C)contentment. ⁷ For ^(D)we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either. ⁸ If we ^(E)have food and ^[a]covering, with these we shall be content. ^9 (F)But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and ^(G)a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For ^(H)the love of money is a root of all ^[b]sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have ^(I)wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many ^[c]griefs.

¹⁷ Instruct those who are rich in ^(A)this present world ^(B)not to be conceited or to ^(C)set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, ^(D)who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. ¹⁸ Instruct them to do good, to be rich in ^(E)good ^[a]works, ^(F)to be generous and ready to share, ^19 (G)storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may ^(H)take hold of that which is truly life.
