False Asceticism
4 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later[a] times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared with a hot iron. 3 They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by God’s word and by prayer.
A Good Minister of Jesus Christ
6 If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters,[b] you will be a good servant[c] of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with profane myths and old wives’ tales. Train yourself in godliness, 8 for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9 The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. 10 For to this end we toil and struggle,[d] because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all people, especially of those who believe.
11 These are the things you must insist on and teach. 12 Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Until I arrive, give attention to the public reading of scripture,[e] to exhorting, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders.[f] 15 Put these things into practice, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress. 16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.

4 Der Geist aber sagt ausdrücklich, dass in späteren Zeiten etliche vom Glauben abfallen und sich irreführenden Geistern und Lehren der Dämonen zuwenden werden
2 durch die Heuchelei[a] von Lügenrednern, die in ihrem eigenen Gewissen gebrandmarkt sind.
3 Sie verbieten zu heiraten und Speisen zu genießen, die doch Gott geschaffen hat, damit sie mit Danksagung gebraucht werden von denen, die gläubig sind und die Wahrheit erkennen.
4 Denn alles, was Gott geschaffen hat, ist gut, und nichts ist verwerflich, wenn es mit Danksagung empfangen wird;
5 denn es wird geheiligt durch Gottes Wort und Gebet.
Anweisungen für treue Diener Gottes
6 Wenn du dies den Brüdern vor Augen stellst, wirst du ein guter Diener Jesu Christi sein, der sich nährt mit den Worten des Glaubens und der guten Lehre, der du nachgefolgt bist.
7 Die unheiligen Altweiberlegenden[b] aber weise ab; dagegen übe dich in der Gottesfurcht[c]!
8 Denn die leibliche Übung nützt wenig, die Gottesfurcht aber ist für alles nützlich, da sie die Verheißung für dieses und für das zukünftige Leben hat.
9 Glaubwürdig ist das Wort und aller Annahme wert;
10 denn dafür arbeiten wir auch und werden geschmäht, weil wir unsere Hoffnung auf den lebendigen Gott gesetzt haben, der ein Retter aller Menschen[d] ist, besonders der Gläubigen.
11 Dies sollst du gebieten und lehren!
12 Niemand verachte dich wegen deiner Jugend, sondern sei den Gläubigen ein Vorbild im Wort, im Wandel[e], in der Liebe, im Geist, im Glauben, in der Keuschheit[f]!
13 Bis ich komme, sei bedacht auf das Vorlesen, das Ermahnen und das Lehren.
14 Vernachlässige nicht die Gnadengabe in dir, die dir verliehen wurde durch Weissagung unter Handauflegung der Ältestenschaft!
15 Dies soll deine Sorge sein, darin sollst du leben, damit deine Fortschritte in allen Dingen offenbar seien!
16 Habe acht auf dich selbst und auf die Lehre; bleibe beständig dabei! Denn wenn du dies tust, wirst du sowohl dich selbst retten[g] als auch die, welche auf dich hören.

Conseils à propos des fausses doctrines
4 Mais l'Esprit dit expressément que, dans les derniers temps, certains abandonneront la foi pour s'attacher à des esprits trompeurs et à des doctrines de démons, 2 car ils seront égarés par l'hypocrisie de menteurs dont la conscience est marquée au fer rouge[a]. 3 Ces gens-là interdisent de se marier et de consommer des aliments que Dieu a pourtant créés pour qu'ils soient pris avec reconnaissance par ceux qui sont croyants et qui ont connu la vérité. 4 Tout ce que Dieu a créé est bon et rien ne doit être rejeté, pourvu qu'on le prenne dans une attitude de reconnaissance, 5 car cela est rendu saint par la parole de Dieu et la prière.
6 En exposant cela aux frères et sœurs, tu seras un bon serviteur de Jésus-Christ, nourri des paroles de la foi et du bon enseignement que tu as fidèlement suivi. 7 Rejette les contes profanes de vieilles femmes. Exerce-toi plutôt à la piété. 8 En effet, l'exercice physique est utile à peu de chose, tandis que la piété est utile à tout, car elle a la promesse de la vie présente et de la vie à venir. 9 Voilà une parole certaine, digne d'être acceptée sans réserve. 10 C’est dans cette perspective en effet que nous travaillons et que nous nous laissons insulter, parce que nous avons mis notre espérance dans le Dieu vivant qui est le Sauveur de tous les hommes, et en particulier des croyants.
11 Transmets ces instructions et enseigne-les. 12 Que personne ne méprise ta jeunesse, mais sois un modèle pour les croyants par tes paroles, ta conduite, ton amour, [ton esprit,] ta foi, ta pureté. 13 En attendant que je vienne, applique-toi à lire les Ecritures dans l’assemblée, à encourager, à enseigner. 14 Ne néglige pas le don que tu as reçu, celui qui t'a été donné d’après une prophétie lorsque le conseil des anciens a posé les mains sur toi. 15 Occupe-toi de ces choses, donne-toi tout entier à elles, afin que tes progrès soient évidents pour tous. 16 Veille sur toi-même et sur ton enseignement. Mets-y de la persévérance, car en agissant ainsi, tu te sauveras toi-même ainsi que ceux qui t'écoutent.
