1 Timothy 2
Living Bible

2 Here are my directions: Pray much for others; plead for God’s mercy upon them; give thanks for all he is going to do for them.

2 Pray in this way for kings and all others who are in authority over us, or are in places of high responsibility, so that we can live in peace and quietness, spending our time in godly living and thinking much about the Lord.[a] 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 for he longs for all to be saved and to understand this truth: 5 That God is on one side and all the people on the other side, and Christ Jesus, himself man, is between them to bring them together, 6 by giving his life for all mankind.

This is the message that at the proper time God gave to the world. 7 And I have been chosen—this is the absolute truth—as God’s minister and missionary to teach this truth to the Gentiles and to show them God’s plan of salvation through faith.

8 So I want men everywhere to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from sin and anger and resentment. 9-10 And the women should be the same way, quiet and sensible in manner and clothing. Christian women should be noticed for being kind and good, not for the way they fix their hair or because of their jewels or fancy clothes. 11 Women should listen and learn quietly and humbly.

12 I never let women teach men or lord it over them. Let them be silent in your church meetings. 13 Why? Because God made Adam first, and afterwards he made Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was fooled by Satan, but Eve, and sin was the result. 15 So God sent pain and suffering to women when their children are born, but he will save their souls if they trust in him, living quiet, good, and loving lives.

2 (A) Först av allt uppmanar jag till bön, åkallan, förbön och tacksägelse för alla människor, 2 (B) för kungar och alla i ledande ställning, så att vi kan leva ett lugnt och stilla liv, på alla sätt gudfruktigt och värdigt. 3 (C) Detta är gott och rätt inför Gud, vår Frälsare, 4 (D) som vill att alla människor ska bli frälsta och komma till insikt om sanningen.

5 (E) Gud är en, och en är medlare mellan Gud och människor: människan Kristus Jesus, 6 (F) som gav sig själv till lösen för alla. Detta vittnesbörd skulle frambäras när tiden var inne, 7 (G) och för detta är jag satt till förkunnare[a] och apostel – jag talar sanning och ljuger inte – en hedningarnas lärare i tron och sanningen.

8 (H) Jag vill nu att männen på varje plats ska be med heliga, lyfta händer[b], utan vrede och diskuterande. 9 (I) På samma sätt ska kvinnorna smycka sig med anständig klädsel, med blygsamhet och gott omdöme, inte med håruppsättningar och guld eller pärlor eller dyra kläder, 10 utan så som det anstår kvinnor som bekänner sig till gudsfruktan: med goda gärningar.

11 (J) En kvinna ska i stillhet ta emot undervisning och helt underordna sig. 12 Jag tillåter inte att en kvinna undervisar eller gör sig till herre över mannen, utan hon ska vara i stillhet, 13 (K) eftersom Adam skapades först och sedan Eva.[c] 14 (L) Och det var inte Adam som blev förledd, utan kvinnan blev förledd och gjorde sig skyldig till överträdelse. 15 Men hon ska bli frälst under det att hon föder barn[d], om hon fortsätter[e] att leva anständigt i tro, kärlek och helgelse.Det är ett ord att lita på.

2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers,(A) intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority,(B) that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness(C) and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases(D) God our Savior,(E) 4 who wants(F) all people(G) to be saved(H) and to come to a knowledge of the truth.(I) 5 For there is one God(J) and one mediator(K) between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,(L) 6 who gave himself as a ransom(M) for all people. This has now been witnessed to(N) at the proper time.(O) 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying(P)—and a true and faithful teacher(Q) of the Gentiles.(R)

8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands(S) without anger or disputing. 9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,(T) 10 but with good deeds,(U) appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full submission.(V) 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet.(W) 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.(X) 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.(Y) 15 But women[c] will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love(Z) and holiness with propriety.
