Simple Faith and Plain Truth

2 ^1-3The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.

^4-7He wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we’ve learned: that there’s one God and only one, and one Priest-Mediator between God and us—Jesus, who offered himself in exchange for everyone held captive by sin, to set them all free. Eventually the news is going to get out. This and this only has been my appointed work: getting this news to those who have never heard of God, and explaining how it works by simple faith and plain truth.

^8-10Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray—not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God. And I want women to get in there with the men in humility before God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing something beautiful for God and becoming beautiful doing it.

^11-15I don’t let women take over and tell the men what to do. They should study to be quiet and obedient along with everyone else. Adam was made first, then Eve; woman was deceived first—our pioneer in sin!—with Adam right on her heels. On the other hand, her childbearing brought about salvation, reversing Eve. But this salvation only comes to those who continue in faith, love, and holiness, gathering it all into maturity. You can depend on this.

2 ^1-2因此，我劝你最重要的是要为万人、君王和一切有权位的恳求、祷告、代求和感恩，好让我们可以敬虔庄重地过平静安稳的日子。 ³在我们的救主　神看来，这是美好的，可蒙悦纳的。 ⁴他愿意万人得救，并且充分认识真理。 ⁵因为　神只有一位，在　神和人中间也只有一位中保，就是降世为人的基督耶稣。 ⁶他舍了自己作万人的赎价，到了适当的时候，这事就证实了。 ⁷为了这事，我也被派作传道的和使徒（我说的是真话，不是谎言），在信仰和真理上作外族人的教师。

敬畏　神的女人

⁸因此，我愿意男人没有忿怒，没有争论，举起圣洁的手随处祷告。 ⁹照样，我也愿意女人以端正、娴淑、自律为装饰；不要以鬈发、金饰、珠宝，或名贵衣裳为装饰， ¹⁰却要以善行作装饰，这才配称为敬畏　神的女人。 ¹¹女人应该安静而又完全顺服地学习。 ¹²我不准女人教导，或辖制男人；女人总要安静。 ¹³因为先造的是亚当，后造的是夏娃； ¹⁴不是亚当受了引诱，而是女人受了引诱，陷在过犯里面。 ¹⁵然而女人要是常常存着信心、爱心、圣洁自律，在她生育的事上必定得救。

Instructions on Prayer

2 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, ²for kings and all those who are in authority,^(A) so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness^(B) and dignity.^(C) ³This is good, and it pleases God our Saviour,^(D) ⁴who wants everyone^(E) to be saved^(F) and to come to the knowledge of the truth.^(G)

⁵For there is one God^(H) and one mediator^(I) between God and mankind, the man^(J) Christ Jesus, ⁶who gave himself as a ransom for all,^(K) a testimony at the proper time.

⁷For this I was appointed a herald, an apostle^(L) (I am telling the truth;^[a] I am not lying), and a teacher of the Gentiles^(M) in faith and truth.

Instructions to Men and Women

⁸Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.^(N) ⁹Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing,^(O) with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold,^(P) pearls, or expensive apparel, ¹⁰but with good works,^(Q) as is proper for women who profess to worship God. ¹¹A woman is to learn quietly with full submission.^(R) ¹²I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to remain quiet. ¹³For Adam was formed first, then Eve.^(S) ¹⁴And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.^(T) ¹⁵But she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness,^(U) with good sense.
