1 Timothy 2:9-3:13

⁹likewise also ^(A)that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, ¹⁰^(B)but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works. ¹¹Let a woman learn quietly ^(C)with all submissiveness. ¹²^(D)I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. ¹³^(E)For Adam was formed first, ^(F)then Eve; ¹⁴and Adam was not deceived, but ^(G)the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. ¹⁵Yet she will be saved through ^(H)childbearing—if they continue in ^(I)faith and love and holiness, with self-control.

Qualifications for Overseers

3 The saying is ^(J)trustworthy: If anyone aspires to ^(K)the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. ²Therefore ^(L)an overseer^[a] must be above reproach, ^(M)the husband of one wife,^[b] ^(N)sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, ^(O)hospitable, ^(P)able to teach, ³not a drunkard, not violent but ^(Q)gentle, not quarrelsome, ^(R)not a lover of money. ⁴He must manage his own household well, with all dignity ^(S)keeping his children submissive, ⁵for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for ^(T)God's church? ⁶He must not be a recent convert, or he may ^(U)become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. ⁷Moreover, he must be well thought of by ^(V)outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into ^(W)a snare of the devil.

Qualifications for Deacons

⁸^(X)Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued,^[c] ^(Y)not addicted to much wine, ^(Z)not greedy for dishonest gain. ⁹They must ^(AA)hold the mystery of the faith with ^(AB)a clear conscience. ¹⁰And ^(AC)let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. ¹¹^(AD)Their wives likewise^[d] must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, ^(AE)faithful in all things. ¹²Let deacons each be ^(AF)the husband of one wife, ^(AG)managing their children and their own households well. ¹³For ^(AH)those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
