11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full submission.(A) 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet.(B) 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.(C) 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.(D) 15 But women[c] will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love(E) and holiness with propriety.

Qualifications for Overseers and Deacons

Here is a trustworthy saying:(F) Whoever aspires to be an overseer(G) desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach,(H) faithful to his wife,(I) temperate,(J) self-controlled, respectable, hospitable,(K) able to teach,(L) not given to drunkenness,(M) not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome,(N) not a lover of money.(O) He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full[d] respect.(P) (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)(Q) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited(R) and fall under the same judgment(S) as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders,(T) so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.(U)

Appointing Elders Who Love What Is Good(A)

The reason I left you in Crete(B) was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint[a] elders(C) in every town, as I directed you. An elder must be blameless,(D) faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe[b] and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer(E) manages God’s household,(F) he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.(G) Rather, he must be hospitable,(H) one who loves what is good,(I) who is self-controlled,(J) upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly(K) to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine(L) and refute those who oppose it.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands(A) as you do to the Lord.(B) 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church,(C) his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands(D) in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives,(E) just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her(F) 26 to make her holy,(G) cleansing[a] her by the washing(H) with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself(I) as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.(J) 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives(K) as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
