Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

or to devote themselves to myths(A) and endless genealogies.(B) Such things promote controversial speculations(C) rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart(D) and a good conscience(E) and a sincere faith.(F) Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers(G) of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.(H)

We know that the law is good(I) if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous(J) but for lawbreakers and rebels,(K) the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine(L) 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.(M)

The Lord’s Grace to Paul

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength,(N) that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.(O) 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor(P) and a violent man, I was shown mercy(Q) because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.(R)

nor (A)to devote themselves to myths and endless (B)genealogies, which promote (C)speculations rather than the stewardship[a] from God that is by faith. The aim of our charge is love (D)that issues from a pure heart and (E)a good conscience and (F)a sincere faith. Certain persons, by (G)swerving from these, have wandered away into (H)vain discussion, desiring to be teachers of the law, (I)without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.

Now we know that (J)the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the (K)law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers,[b] liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to (L)sound[c] doctrine, 11 in accordance with (M)the gospel of the glory of (N)the blessed God (O)with which I have been entrusted.

Christ Jesus Came to Save Sinners

12 I thank him (P)who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, (Q)appointing me to his service, 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, (R)persecutor, and insolent opponent. But (S)I received mercy (T)because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief,

or to pay attention to myths(A) and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan,(B) which operates by faith. Now the goal of our instruction is love(C) that comes from a pure heart,(D) a good conscience,(E) and a sincere faith.(F) Some have departed from these and turned aside to fruitless discussion. They want to be teachers of the law, although they don’t understand what they are saying or what they are insisting on. But we know that the law is good,(G) provided one uses it legitimately. We know that the law is not meant for a righteous person, but for the lawless and rebellious,(H) for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and irreverent, for those who kill their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral(I) and males who have sex with males,(J) for slave traders, liars,(K) perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching(L) 11 that conforms to the gospel(M) concerning the glory of the blessed God,(N) which was entrusted to me.(O)

Paul’s Testimony

12 I give thanks to Christ Jesus our Lord who has strengthened(P) me, because he considered me faithful, appointing me to the ministry— 13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer,(Q) a persecutor,(R) and an arrogant man.(S) But I received mercy because I acted out of ignorance in unbelief,

nor to [a]pay attention to (A)myths and endless (B)genealogies, which give rise to mere (C)speculation rather than (D)furthering [b]the administration of God which is by faith. But the goal of our [c](E)instruction is love (F)from a pure heart and a (G)good conscience and a sincere (H)faith. For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to (I)fruitless discussion, (J)wanting to be (K)teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.

But we know that (L)the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that (M)law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and (N)rebellious, for the (O)ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and (P)profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers 10 [d]and [e](Q)immoral men [f]and (R)homosexuals [g]and (S)kidnappers [h]and (T)liars [i]and (U)perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to (V)sound teaching, 11 according to (W)the glorious gospel of (X)the blessed God, with which I have been (Y)entrusted.

12 I thank (Z)Christ Jesus our Lord, who has (AA)strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, (AB)putting me into service, 13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a (AC)persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was (AD)shown mercy because (AE)I acted ignorantly in unbelief;
