³ Whoever teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that is in accordance with godliness^(A)

Warning against False Teachers

³ I urge you, as I did when I was on my way to Macedonia, to remain in Ephesus so that you may instruct certain people not to teach different teachings^(A)

¹⁰ the sexually immoral, men who engage in illicit sex,^[a] slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching^(A)

⁹ holding tightly to the trustworthy word of the teaching, so that he may be able both to exhort with sound instruction and to refute those who contradict it.

³ For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound teaching, but, having their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires^(A)

Final Instructions

¹⁷ I urge you, brothers and sisters, to keep an eye on those who create dissensions and hindrances, in opposition to the teaching that you have learned; avoid them.^(A)

Teach Sound Doctrine

2 But as for you, teach what is consistent with sound instruction. ² Tell the older men to be temperate, serious, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.

Salutation

1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth that is in accordance with godliness,

¹³ Hold to the standard of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.^(A)

⁷ Have nothing to do with profane and foolish tales. Train yourself in godliness,^{(A) 8} for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.^(B)
