¹¹ But ^[a]refuse the younger widows; for when they have begun to grow wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,

¹⁴ Therefore I desire that the younger widows marry, bear children, manage the house, give no opportunity to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

⁵ You have lived on the earth in pleasure and ^[a]luxury; you have ^[b]fattened your hearts ^[c]as in a day of slaughter.

⁹ Do not let a widow under sixty years old be taken into the number, and not unless she has been the wife of one man,

³ forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

^39 (A)A wife is bound by law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband dies, she is at liberty to be married to whom she wishes, ^(B)only in the Lord. ⁴⁰ But she is happier if she remains as she is, ^(C)according to my judgment—and ^(D)I think I also have the Spirit of God.

¹⁶ Moreover the Lord says:

^7 (A)In the measure that she glorified herself and lived ^[a]luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as ^(B)queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’

Deceptions of False Teachers

¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who ^[a]have actually escaped from those who live in error.
