⁵ for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?

¹³ For I have told him that I am about to punish his house forever for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God,^[a] and he did not restrain them.^(A)

²⁴ Just as the church is subject to Christ, so also wives ought to be, in everything, to their husbands.

³² This is a great mystery, but I am speaking about Christ and the church.

¹⁵ if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.^(A)

²² And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church,^(A)

²⁸ Keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God^[a] that he obtained with the blood of his own Son.^[b](A)

²⁹ Why then look^[a] with greedy eye at my sacrifices and my offerings^[b] and honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?^{(A) 30} Therefore the Lord the God of Israel declares: I promised that your family and the family of your ancestor should go in and out before me forever, but now the Lord declares: Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be treated with contempt.^(B)

³² Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God,^(A)
