⁵ (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)^(A)

¹³ For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God,^[a] and he failed to restrain^(A) them.

²⁴ Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands^(A) in everything.

³² This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

¹⁵ if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church^(A) of the living God,^(B) the pillar and foundation of the truth.

²² And God placed all things under his feet^(A) and appointed him to be head^(B) over everything for the church,

²⁸ Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock^(A) of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.^(B) Be shepherds of the church of God,^[a](C) which he bought^(D) with his own blood.^[b](E)

²⁹ Why do you^[a] scorn my sacrifice and offering^(A) that I prescribed for my dwelling?^(B) Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’

³⁰ “Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.^(C)’ But now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor,^(D) but those who despise^(E) me will be disdained.^(F)

³² Do not cause anyone to stumble,^(A) whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God^(B)—
