⁶ Some people have deviated from these and turned to meaningless talk,

¹⁰ There are also many rebellious people, idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision;^(A)

⁹ But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.^(A)

²³ Have nothing to do with stupid and senseless controversies; you know that they breed quarrels.^{(A) 24} And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kindly to everyone, an apt teacher, patient,^(B)

²⁰ Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the profane chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge;^{(A) 21} by professing it some have missed the mark as regards the faith.

¹⁵ For some have already turned away to follow Satan.

¹⁰ for Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia,^[a] Titus to Dalmatia.^(A)

¹⁸ who have swerved from the truth, saying resurrection^[a] has already occurred. They are upsetting the faith of some.^(A)

⁴ is conceited, understanding nothing, and has a morbid craving for controversy and for disputes about words. From these come envy, dissension, slander, base suspicions,^{(A) 5} and wrangling among those who are depraved in mind and bereft of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.^[a](B)
