The Day of the Lord

5 Now concerning the (A)times and the seasons, brothers, you (B)have no need of anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know full well that (C)the day of the Lord [a]will come (D)just like a thief in the night. 3 While they are saying, “(E)Peace and safety!” then [b](F)destruction [c]will come upon them suddenly like (G)labor pains upon a woman who is pregnant, and they will never escape. 4 But you, brothers, are not in (H)darkness, that the day would overtake you [d](I)like a thief, 5 for you are all (J)sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of (K)darkness; 6 so then let us not (L)sleep as [e](M)others do, but let us be awake and [f](N)sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get (O)drunk at night. 8 But since (P)we are of the day, let us (Q)be [g]sober, having put on the (R)breastplate of (S)faith and love, and as a (T)helmet, the (U)hope of salvation. 9 For God has not appointed us for (V)wrath, but for (W)obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 (X)who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. 11 Therefore, [h]comfort one another and (Y)build up one another, just as you also are doing.

Admonishment and Instruction

12 But we ask of you, brothers, that you (Z)know those (AA)who labor among you, and (AB)lead you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and that you regard them very highly in love because of their work. (AC)Live in peace with one another. 14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish (AD)the [i]unruly, encourage (AE)the fainthearted, help (AF)the weak, be (AG)patient with everyone. 15 See that (AH)no one repays another with evil for evil, but always (AI)seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. 16 (AJ)Rejoice always; 17 (AK)pray without ceasing; 18 in everything (AL)give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 (AM)Do not quench the Spirit; 20 do not despise (AN)prophecies, 21 but (AO)examine all things; (AP)hold fast to that which is good; 22 abstain from every [j]form of evil.

23 Now (AQ)may the God of peace (AR)Himself sanctify you entirely, and may your (AS)spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, (AT)without blame at (AU)the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 (AV)Faithful is He who (AW)calls you, who also will do it.

25 Brothers, (AX)pray for us[k].

26 (AY)Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. 27 I implore you by the Lord to (AZ)have this letter read to all the (BA)brothers.

28 (BB)The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

2 因 为 你 们 自 己 明 明 晓 得 ， 主 的 日 子 来 到 ， 好 像 夜 间 的 贼 一 样 。

3 人 正 说 平 安 稳 妥 的 时 候 ， 灾 祸 忽 然 临 到 他 们 ， 如 同 产 难 临 到 怀 胎 的 妇 人 一 样 。 他 们 绝 不 能 逃 脱 。

4 弟 兄 们 ， 你 们 却 不 在 黑 暗 里 ， 叫 那 日 子 临 到 你 们 像 贼 一 样 。

5 你 们 都 是 光 明 之 子 ， 都 是 白 昼 之 子 。 我 们 不 是 属 黑 夜 的 ， 也 不 是 属 幽 暗 的 。

6 所 以 我 们 不 要 睡 觉 像 别 人 一 样 ， 总 要 儆 醒 谨 守 。

7 因 为 睡 了 的 人 是 在 夜 间 睡 ， 醉 了 的 人 是 在 夜 间 醉 。

8 但 我 们 既 然 属 乎 白 昼 ， 就 应 当 谨 守 ， 把 信 和 爱 当 作 护 心 镜 遮 胸 ， 把 得 救 的 盼 望 当 作 头 盔 戴 上 。

9 因 为 神 不 是 预 定 我 们 受 刑 ， 乃 是 预 定 我 们 藉 着 我 们 主 耶 稣 基 督 得 救 。

10 他 替 我 们 死 ， 叫 我 们 无 论 醒 着 、 睡 着 ， 都 与 他 同 活 。

11 所 以 ， 你 们 该 彼 此 劝 慰 ， 互 相 建 立 ， 正 如 你 们 素 常 所 行 的 。

12 弟 兄 们 ， 我 们 劝 你 们 敬 重 那 在 你 们 中 间 劳 苦 的 人 ， 就 是 在 主 里 面 治 理 你 们 、 劝 戒 你 们 的 。

13 又 因 他 们 所 做 的 工 ， 用 爱 心 格 外 尊 重 他 们 。 你 们 也 要 彼 此 和 睦 。

14 我 们 又 劝 弟 兄 们 ， 要 警 戒 不 守 规 矩 的 人 ， 勉 励 灰 心 的 人 ， 扶 助 软 弱 的 人 ， 也 要 向 众 人 忍 耐 。

15 你 们 要 谨 慎 ， 无 论 是 谁 都 不 可 以 恶 报 恶 ； 或 是 彼 此 相 待 ， 或 是 待 众 人 ， 常 要 追 求 良 善 。

16 要 常 常 喜 乐 ，

17 不 住 的 祷 告 ，

18 凡 事 谢 恩 ； 因 为 这 是 神 在 基 督 耶 稣 里 向 你 们 所 定 的 旨 意 。

19 不 要 销 灭 圣 灵 的 感 动 ；

20 不 要 藐 视 先 知 的 讲 论 。

21 但 要 凡 事 察 验 ， 善 美 的 要 持 守 ，

22 各 样 的 恶 事 要 禁 戒 不 做 。

23 愿 赐 平 安 的 神 亲 自 使 你 们 全 然 成 圣 ！ 又 愿 你 们 的 灵 与 魂 与 身 子 得 蒙 保 守 ， 在 我 主 耶 稣 基 督 降 临 的 时 候 ， 完 全 无 可 指 摘 ！

24 那 召 你 们 的 本 是 信 实 的 ， 他 必 成 就 这 事 。

25 请 弟 兄 们 为 我 们 祷 告 。

26 与 众 弟 兄 亲 嘴 问 安 ， 务 要 圣 洁 。

27 我 指 着 主 嘱 咐 你 们 ， 要 把 这 信 念 给 众 弟 兄 听 。

28 愿 我 主 耶 稣 基 督 的 恩 常 与 你 们 同 在 ！

The Day of the Lord

5 But concerning (A)the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that (B)the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then (C)sudden destruction comes upon them, (D)as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 (E)But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all (F)sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 (G)Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but (H)let us watch and be [a]sober. 7 For (I)those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk (J)are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, (K)putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For (L)God did not appoint us to wrath, (M)but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 (N)who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

11 Therefore [b]comfort each other and [c]edify one another, just as you also are doing.

Various Exhortations

12 And we urge you, brethren, (O)to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and [d]admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. (P)Be at peace among yourselves.

14 Now we [e]exhort you, brethren, (Q)warn those who are [f]unruly, (R)comfort the fainthearted, (S)uphold the weak, (T)be patient with all. 15 (U)See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always (V)pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.

16 (W)Rejoice always, 17 (X)pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

19 (Y)Do not quench the Spirit. 20 (Z)Do not despise prophecies. 21 (AA)Test all things; (AB)hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.

Blessing and Admonition

23 Now may (AC)the God of peace Himself (AD)sanctify[g] you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body (AE)be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is (AF)faithful, who also will (AG)do it.

25 Brethren, pray for us.

26 Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.

27 I charge you by the Lord that this [h]epistle be read to all the [i]holy brethren.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
