⁵ For ^(A)our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, ^(B)and in the Holy Spirit ^(C)and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

⁷ For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; ⁸ nor did we eat anyone’s bread ^[a]free of charge, but worked with ^(A)labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, ⁹ not because we do not have ^(B)authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.

²⁰ And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them ^(A)and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

Their Conversion

¹³ For this reason we also thank God ^(A)without ceasing, because when you ^(B)received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it ^(C)not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively ^(D)works in you who believe.

¹⁴ to which He called you by our gospel, for ^(A)the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

² For I determined not to know anything among you ^(A)except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. ^3 (B)I was with you ^(C)in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. ⁴ And my speech and my preaching ^(D)were not with persuasive words of ^[a]human wisdom, ^(E)but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, ⁵ that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the ^(F)power of God.

¹² To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to ^[a]us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which ^(A)angels desire to look into.

² This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, ^(A)or by the hearing of faith? ³ Are you so foolish? ^(B)Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by ^(C)the flesh? ^4 (D)Have you suffered so ^[a]many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?

⁵ Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?—

¹⁸ that by two ^[a]immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to ^(A)lie, we ^[b]might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope ^(B)set before us.

¹⁹ This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, ^(C)and which enters the Presence behind the veil,
