⁴ that each one of you know how to control your own body^[a] in holiness and honor,

⁹ But if they are not practicing self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame with passion.^(A)

The New Life in Christ

12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, on the basis of God’s mercy, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable act of worship.^(A)

⁷ Husbands, in the same way, show consideration for your wives in your life together, paying honor to the woman—though the weaker vessel,^[a] they are joint heirs of the gracious gift of life—so that nothing may hinder your prayers.^(A)

¹⁵ Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!^(A)

⁴ Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.^(A)

² But because of cases of sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

¹⁸ Shun sexual immorality!^[a] Every sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person^[b] sins against the body itself.^{(A) 19} Or do you not know that your body is a temple^[c] of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?^{(B) 20} For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.^(C)

²¹ Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one object for special use and another for ordinary use?^{(A) 22} What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience the objects of wrath that are made for destruction,^{(B) 23} and what if he has done so in order to make known the riches of his glory for the objects of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—

⁸ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about^[a] these things.
