3 لِذَلِكَ لَمَّا صَارَ افْتِرَاقُنَا عَنْكُمْ لَا يُحْتَمَلُ، حَسُنَ لَدَيْنَا أَنْ نَبْقَى وَحْدَنَا فِي مَدِينَةِ أَثِينَا، 2 فَبَعَثْنَا تِيمُوثَاوُسَ، أَخَانَا وَمُعَاوِنَنَا فِي خِدْمَةِ اللهِ بِنَشْرِ الإِنْجِيلِ، لِكَيْ يُشَدِّدَكُمْ وَيُشَجِّعَكُمْ فِي إِيمَانِكُمْ، 3 حَتَّى لَا يَتَزَعْزَعَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ جَرَّاءِ هذِهِ الضِّيقَاتِ. فَإِنَّكُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّنَا مُعَيَّنُونَ لِذَلِكَ؛ 4 وَقَدْ سَبَقَ لَنَا، لَمَّا كُنَّا عِنْدَكُمْ أَنْ أَخْبَرْنَاكُمْ أَنَّنَا سَنُقَاسِي الضِّيقَاتِ، الأَمْرُ الَّذِي حَدَثَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ كَمَا تَعْلَمُونَ. 5 وَلِهَذَا أَيْضاً، إِذْ صَارَ الافْتِرَاقُ عَنْكُمْ لَا يُحْتَمَلُ، أَرْسَلْتُ أَسْتَخْبِرُ عَنْ إِيمَانِكُمْ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ الْمُجَرِّبُ قَدْ جَرَّبَكُمْ فَيَذْهَبَ جَهْدُنَا سُدىً!

6 أَمَّا الآنَ، وَقَدْ عَادَ تِيمُوثَاوُسُ إِلَيْنَا مِنْ عِنْدِكُمْ وَبَشَّرَنَا بِمَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ وَمَحَبَّةٍ، وَبِأَنَّكُمْ تَذْكُرُونَنَا ذِكْراً حَسَناً فِي كُلِّ حِينٍ، وَتَشْتَاقُونَ كَثِيراً لِرُؤْيَتِنَا كَمَا نَشْتَاقُ نَحْنُ لِرُؤْيَتِكُمْ، 7 فَقَدْ وَجَدْنَا بِكُمْ أَيُّهَا الإِخْوَةُ عَزَاءً فِي وَسَطِ ضِيقَتِنَا وشِدَّتِنَا مِنْ جِهَةِ إِيمَانِكُمْ. 8 فَقَدْ طَابَتْ لَنَا الْحَيَاةُ مَادُمْتُمْ ثَابِتِينَ فِي الرَّبِّ! 9 فَأَيُّ شُكْرٍ نَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ نُؤَدِّيَهُ إِلَى اللهِ عِوَضاً عَنْكُمْ مِنْ أَجْلِ كُلِّ مَا نَبْتَهِجُ بِهِ مِنَ الْفَرَحِ بِسَبَبِكُمْ أَمَامَ إِلَهِنَا، 10 وَنَحْنُ نَتَضَرَّعُ لَيْلَ نَهَارَ مُتَوَسِّلِينَ أَنْ نَرَى وُجُوهَكُمْ وَنُكَمِّلَ مَا كَانَ نَاقِصاً فِي إِيمَانِكُمْ؟
11 لَيْتَ اللهَ أَبَانَا نَفْسَهُ، وَرَبَّنَا يَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحَ، يُسَهِّلُ أَمَامَنَا الطَّرِيقَ إِلَيْكُمْ. 12 وَلْيَجْعَلْكُمُ الرَّبُّ تَنْمُونَ وَتَفِيضُونَ فِي الْمَحَبَّةِ لِتُحِبُّوا بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضاً وَجَمِيعَ النَّاسِ كَمَحَبَّتِنَا لَكُمْ، 13 حَتَّى تَتَثَبَّتَ قُلُوبُكُمْ بِغَيْرِ لَوْمٍ فِي الْقَدَاسَةِ أَمَامَ إِلهِنَا وَأَبِينَا عِنْدَمَا يَظْهَرُ رَبُّنَا يَسُوعُ عَائِداً مَعَ جَمِيعِ قِدِّيسِيهِ.

Buone notizie da Timòteo
3 Infine, non potendo più resistere, ho preferito rimanere solo ad Atene 2-3 e vi ho mandato il fratello Timòteo, nostro collaboratore al servizio di Dio. Ve lʼho mandato per rafforzare la vostra fede e per incoraggiarvi, perché nessuno si perda dʼanimo davanti a queste tribolazioni. Naturalmente, voi sapete bene che soffrire fa parte del piano di Dio per noi cristiani. 4 Già da quando eravamo con voi, vi avevamo detto che presto saremmo stati perseguitati; e così è stato, come ben sapete.
5 Ecco perché, non potendo più aspettare, ho mandato Timòteo a vedere se la vostra fede era ancora forte. Avevo paura che Satana vi avesse tentato, e che tutto il nostro lavoro tra voi fosse stato inutile. 6 Ma ora Timòteo è appena ritornato con le buone notizie che la vostra fede e il vostro amore sono più forti che mai. Mi ha detto anche che avete un bel ricordo della nostra visita e che desiderate rivederci quanto lo desideriamo noi. 7 Così, fratelli, la vostra fede ci è stata di grande conforto in mezzo a tutte queste angustie e tribolazioni. 8 Adesso sì che ci sentiamo rivivere, perché sappiamo che restate saldi nel Signore!
9 Come possiamo ringraziare abbastanza Dio per tutta la gioia che ci avete dato? 10 Giorno e notte preghiamo in continuazione per voi, chiedendo a Dio di potervi rivedere e di colmare qualsiasi piccola lacuna ci possa ancora essere nella vostra fede. 11 Che Dio stesso, nostro Padre, e il nostro Signore, Gesù Cristo, ci appianino la strada per tornare da voi! 12 Possa il Signore far crescere in abbondanza il vostro amore fra voi e verso tutti gli altri, così come trabocca il nostro per voi. 13 Questo farà sì che i vostri cuori si rinforzino nella fede, perché siate santi e perfetti davanti a Dio, nostro Padre, quando il nostro Signore Gesù tornerà insieme con tutti quelli che gli appartengono.

3 So when we could stand it no longer,(A) we thought it best to be left by ourselves in Athens.(B) 2 We sent Timothy,(C) who is our brother and co-worker(D) in God’s service in spreading the gospel of Christ,(E) to strengthen and encourage you in your faith, 3 so that no one would be unsettled by these trials.(F) For you know quite well that we are destined for them.(G) 4 In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know.(H) 5 For this reason, when I could stand it no longer,(I) I sent to find out about your faith.(J) I was afraid that in some way the tempter(K) had tempted you and that our labors might have been in vain.(L)
Timothy’s Encouraging Report
6 But Timothy(M) has just now come to us from you(N) and has brought good news about your faith and love.(O) He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you.(P) 7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and persecution we were encouraged about you because of your faith. 8 For now we really live, since you are standing firm(Q) in the Lord. 9 How can we thank God enough for you(R) in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you?(S) 10 Night and day we pray(T) most earnestly that we may see you again(U) and supply what is lacking in your faith.
11 Now may our God and Father(V) himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come to you. 12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other(W) and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless(X) and holy in the presence of our God and Father(Y) when our Lord Jesus comes(Z) with all his holy ones.(AA)
