2 Ustedes mismos, hermanos, saben que nuestra visita a ustedes no fue en vano. 2 Más bien, aunque, como ya saben, antes habíamos sido insultados y maltratados en Filipos, Dios nos ayudó a anunciarles a ustedes su evangelio, con todo valor y en medio de una fuerte lucha. 3 Porque no estábamos equivocados en lo que predicábamos, ni tampoco hablábamos con malas intenciones ni con el propósito de engañar a nadie. 4 Al contrario, Dios nos aprobó y nos encargó el evangelio, y así es como hablamos. No tratamos de agradar a la gente, sino a Dios, que examina nuestros corazones. 5 Como ustedes saben, nunca los hemos halagado con palabras bonitas, ni hemos usado pretextos para ganar dinero. Dios es testigo de esto. 6 Nunca hemos buscado honores de nadie: ni de ustedes ni de otros. 7 Aunque muy bien hubiéramos podido hacerles sentir el peso de nuestra autoridad como apóstoles de Cristo, nos hicimos como niños entre ustedes. Como una madre que cría y cuida a sus propios hijos, 8 así también les tenemos a ustedes tanto cariño que hubiéramos deseado darles, no sólo el evangelio de Dios, sino hasta nuestras propias vidas. ¡Tanto hemos llegado a quererlos! 9 Hermanos, ustedes se acuerdan de cómo trabajábamos y luchábamos para ganarnos la vida. Trabajábamos día y noche, a fin de no ser una carga para ninguno de ustedes mientras les anunciábamos el evangelio de Dios.
10 Ustedes son testigos, y Dios también, de que nos hemos portado de una manera santa, recta e irreprochable con ustedes los creyentes. 11-12 También saben que los hemos animado y consolado a cada uno de ustedes, como hace un padre con sus hijos. Les hemos encargado que se porten como deben hacerlo los que son de Dios, que los llama a tener parte en su propio reino y gloria.
13 Por esto, de nuestra parte, damos siempre gracias a Dios, pues cuando ustedes escucharon el mensaje de Dios que nosotros les predicamos, lo recibieron como mensaje de Dios y no como mensaje de hombres. Y en verdad es el mensaje de Dios, el cual produce sus resultados en ustedes los que creen. 14 Cuando ustedes, hermanos, sufrieron persecución a manos de sus paisanos, les pasó lo mismo que a las iglesias de Dios de los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús en Judea, pues ellos también fueron perseguidos por sus paisanos los judíos. 15 Estos judíos mataron al Señor Jesús, como antes habían matado a los profetas, y nos echaron fuera a nosotros. No agradan a Dios, y están en contra de todos, 16 pues cuando queremos hablar a los que no son judíos, para que también se salven, no nos dejan hacerlo. De esta manera llenan siempre la medida de sus pecados. Pero para poner fin a eso, el terrible castigo de Dios ha venido sobre ellos.
Deseos de una nueva visita
17 Hermanos, cuando nos separamos de ustedes por algún tiempo, aunque no los veíamos, siempre los teníamos presentes en nuestro corazón y deseábamos mucho ir a verlos. 18 Intentamos ir; por lo menos yo, Pablo, quise hacerlo varias veces, pero Satanás nos lo impidió. 19 Pues, ¿quién es nuestra esperanza, nuestra alegría y nuestro motivo de orgullo delante de nuestro Señor Jesús, cuando él regrese? Si no lo son ustedes, ningún otro lo será. 20 Sí, ustedes son nuestra gloria y nuestra alegría.

2 Mga kapatid, kayo na rin ang nakakaalam na hindi nasayang ang pagpunta namin diyan sa inyo. 2 Alam nʼyo ang mga paghihirap at pag-aalipusta na dinanas namin sa Filipos bago pa man kami dumating diyan sa inyo. Pero sa kabila nito, binigyan kami ng Dios ng lakas ng loob na ipangaral ang Magandang Balita sa inyo, kahit na maraming hadlang. 3 Ang pangangaral namin ay hindi batay sa kamalian, masamang hangarin o sa balak na manlinlang. 4 Sa halip, nangangaral kami bilang mga karapat-dapat na katiwala ng Dios ng kanyang Magandang Balita. Ginagawa namin ito hindi para kalugdan kami ng mga tao kundi ng Dios na siyang sumisiyasat sa mga puso namin. 5 Alam nʼyo rin na hindi namin kayo dinaan sa matatamis na pananalita sa pangangaral namin at hindi rin kami nangaral para samantalahin kayo. Ang Dios mismo ang saksi namin. 6 Hindi namin hinangad ang papuri ninyo o ng sinuman, 7 kahit may karapatan kaming tumanggap nito bilang mga apostol ni Cristo. Sa halip, naging maaruga kami sa inyo tulad ng isang mapagkalingang ina sa mga anak niya. 8 At dahil mahal namin kayo, hindi lang ang Magandang Balita ang malugod naming ibinigay sa inyo kundi pati na rin ang buhay namin, dahil napamahal na kayo sa amin. 9 Tiyak na natatandaan nʼyo pa, mga kapatid, ang pagsisikap namin noong nasa inyo pa kami. Habang ipinangangaral namin ang Magandang Balita ng Dios, araw-gabi kaming nagtatrabaho para hindi kami maging pabigat sa inyo. 10 Saksi namin kayo at ang Dios na ang pakikitungo namin sa inyong mga mananampalataya ay tapat, matuwid at walang kapintasan. 11 Alam ninyong katulad ng isang ama sa kanyang mga anak ang turing namin sa bawat isa sa inyo. 12 Pinalakas namin ang loob nʼyo, pinayuhan at hinikayat na mamuhay nang karapat-dapat sa Dios na humirang sa inyo para sa kanyang kaharian at kadakilaan.
13 Lagi rin kaming nagpapasalamat sa Dios dahil nang tanggapin nʼyo ang pangangaral namin, tinanggap nʼyo ito hindi bilang salita ng tao, kundi bilang salita ng Dios na kumikilos sa buhay ninyong mga sumasampalataya. 14 Mga kapatid, ang mga nangyayari sa inyo ay tulad din ng nangyayari sa mga iglesya ng Dios sa Judea na nakay Cristo Jesus. Kung anong paghihirap ang dinaranas nʼyo sa kamay ng mga kababayan nʼyo, ito rin ang paghihirap na dinaranas nila sa kamay ng kapwa nila Judio. 15 Silang mga Judio ang pumatay sa Panginoong Jesus at sa mga propeta noon. Sila rin ang mga taong umuusig sa amin. Hindi nalulugod ang Dios sa ginagawa nila, at maging ang lahat ng taoʼy kinakalaban nila. 16 Hinahadlangan nila ang pangangaral namin ng salita ng Dios sa mga hindi Judio na siyang ikaliligtas ng mga ito. Dahil dito, umabot na sa sukdulan ang mga kasalanan nila at hahatulan na sila ng Dios.
Ang Hangarin ni Pablo na Makadalaw Muli sa Tesalonica
17 Mga kapatid, nananabik na kaming makita kayong muli, kahit sandali pa lang kaming nawalay sa inyo. Nawalay nga kami sa katawan, pero hindi sa isipan. 18 Gusto naming bumalik diyan sa inyo, lalung-lalo na ako, si Pablo. Maraming beses naming binalak na dalawin kayo pero hinadlangan kami ni Satanas. 19 Gusto naming bumalik, dahil walang ibang nagbibigay sa amin ng pag-asa at kagalakan kundi kayo. Hindi baʼt kayo rin ang maipagmamalaki namin sa harap ng Panginoong Jesu-Cristo sa pagbabalik niya? 20 Tunay nga na kayo ang karangalan at kagalakan namin.

Paul’s Ministry in Thessalonica
2 You know, brothers and sisters, that our visit to you(A) was not without results.(B) 2 We had previously suffered(C) and been treated outrageously in Philippi,(D) as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in the face of strong opposition.(E) 3 For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives,(F) nor are we trying to trick you.(G) 4 On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.(H) We are not trying to please people(I) but God, who tests our hearts.(J) 5 You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed(K)—God is our witness.(L) 6 We were not looking for praise from people,(M) not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles(N) of Christ we could have asserted our authority.(O) 7 Instead, we were like young children[a] among you.
Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,(P) 8 so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God(Q) but our lives as well.(R) 9 Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked(S) night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone(T) while we preached the gospel of God to you. 10 You are witnesses,(U) and so is God,(V) of how holy,(W) righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. 11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children,(X) 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy(Y) of God, who calls(Z) you into his kingdom and glory.
13 And we also thank God continually(AA) because, when you received the word of God,(AB) which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 14 For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators(AC) of God’s churches in Judea,(AD) which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people(AE) the same things those churches suffered from the Jews 15 who killed the Lord Jesus(AF) and the prophets(AG) and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone 16 in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles(AH) so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit.(AI) The wrath of God has come upon them at last.[b]
Paul’s Longing to See the Thessalonians
17 But, brothers and sisters, when we were orphaned by being separated from you for a short time (in person, not in thought),(AJ) out of our intense longing we made every effort to see you.(AK) 18 For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan(AL) blocked our way.(AM) 19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown(AN) in which we will glory(AO) in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes?(AP) Is it not you? 20 Indeed, you are our glory(AQ) and joy.
