Filistéernas hövdingar litar inte på David
29 Den filistéiska armén samlade nu alla sina styrkor i Afek, medan israeliterna slog läger vid Jisreels källa. 2 De filistéiska hövdingarna ledde sina trupper i avdelningar om hundra och tusen man och längst bak marscherade David och hans män tillsammans med Akish.
3 Men de filistéiska hövdingarna sa: ”Vad gör de där hebréerna här?” Akish svarade: ”Det här är David som tidigare tjänade Israels kung Saul. Han har varit med mig i över ett år nu och jag har inte funnit något hos honom som jag kan anmärka på.”
4 Men de filistéiska ledarna blev förargade. ”Skicka tillbaka honom till den stad du gett honom!” sa de. ”Han får inte strida med oss! Han kommer att vända sig emot oss. Finns det något bättre sätt för honom att försona sig med sin herre än genom att låta våra huvuden rulla? 5 Det var ju honom som de israelitiska kvinnorna sjöng om i sina danser:
’Saul har slagit sina tusen
och David sina tiotusen!’ ”
6 Då kallade Akish på David och sa: ”Så sant Herren lever, du är pålitlig och jag skulle vilja ha dig med oss, för jag har inte funnit något klandervärt hos dig sedan du kom till mig. Men mina befälhavare säger nej. 7 Jag ber dig vända tillbaka i lugn och ro för att inte reta upp dem.”
8 ”Vad har jag gjort?” frågade David. ”Har du under hela den tid jag varit hos dig funnit något att klandra mig, din tjänare, för? Varför får jag inte strida mot dina fiender, min herre och konung?” 9 Men Akish svarade: ”I mina ögon är du som en Guds ängel, men mina befälhavare vill inte ha dig med i striden. 10 Så stig nu upp tidigt i morgon bitti tillsammans med din herres tjänare som kommit med dig och gå tillbaka till den stad jag har gett er. Lämna oss så snart det blir ljust!” 11 David steg upp tidigt följande morgon och vände tillbaka till filistéernas land, medan den filistéiska armén drog vidare mot Jisreel.

David avvisas av filisteerna
29 (A) Filisteerna samlade nu alla sina härar i Afek[a], medan israeliterna hade slagit läger vid källan i Jisreel. 2 Filisteernas furstar tågade fram med avdelningar på hundra och tusen man, och David och hans män tågade fram sist tillsammans med Akish. 3 (B) Då sade filisteernas furstar: ”Vad har de där hebreerna här att göra?” Men Akish svarade dem: ”Det här är David, tjänare till Israels kung Saul. Han har varit hos mig i mer än ett år, och jag har inte funnit något ont hos honom från den dag han gick över till mig ända till nu.”
4 (C) Då blev filisteernas furstar förargade på honom och sade till honom: ”Skicka hem den där mannen till sin plats där du satt honom. Han får inte gå ut i strid med oss, han kan ju bli vår motståndare under striden. Hur kan han bättre glädja sin herre än genom dessa mäns huvuden? 5 (D) Är det inte den David som de sjöng om vid dansen:
”Saul har slagit sina tusen,
David sina tiotusen?”
6 Då kallade Akish till sig David och sade till honom: ”Så sant Herren lever, du är en hederlig man och det gläder mig att du går ut och in här hos mig i lägret, för jag har inte funnit något ont hos dig från den dag du kom till mig ända till denna dag. Men furstarna ser inte på dig med blida ögon. 7 Så vänd nu tillbaka och gå i frid, så att du inte gör något som filisteernas furstar ogillar.”
8 ”Vad har jag då gjort?” frågade David. ”Vad har du funnit hos din tjänare från den dag jag kom i din tjänst ända till denna dag, eftersom jag inte får gå ut och strida mot min herre kungens fiender?” 9 Akish svarade David: ”Jag vet, i mina ögon är du lika god som en Guds ängel. Men filisteernas furstar säger: Han får inte gå ut i strid med oss. 10 Stig därför upp tidigt i morgon tillsammans med din herres tjänare som kom hit med dig. Så snart ni stigit upp och det har ljusnat bör ni ge er i väg.
11 Då steg David och hans män upp tidigt för att på morgonen vända tillbaka till filisteernas land. Men filisteerna drog upp till Jisreel.

reel. 2 I príncipi dei Filistei marciavano alla testa delle loro centinaia e delle loro migliaia, mentre *Davide e la sua gente marciavano alla retroguardia con Achis. 3 Allora i capi dei Filistei dissero: «Che fanno qui questi *Ebrei?» Achis rispose ai capi dei Filistei: «Ma questi è Davide, servo di *Saul re d'Israele, che è stato con me da giorni, anzi da anni, e contro il quale non ho avuto nulla da ridire dal giorno della sua diserzione a oggi!» 4 Ma i capi dei Filistei si adirarono contro di lui, e gli dissero: «Rimanda indietro costui! Ritorni nel luogo che tu gli hai assegnato e non scenda con noi alla battaglia, affinché non sia per noi un nemico durante la battaglia. Infatti come potrebbe costui riacquistare il favore del suo signore, se non a prezzo delle teste di questi nostri uomini? 5 Egli non è forse quel Davide di cui si cantava nelle danze:
“Saul ha ucciso i suoi mille
e Davide i suoi diecimila!?»
6 Allora Achis chiamò Davide e gli disse: «Com'è vero che il Signore vive, tu sei un uomo retto. Vedo con piacere il tuo andare e venire con me nell'accampamento, poiché non ho trovato in te nulla di male dal giorno che arrivasti da me fino a oggi; ma tu non piaci ai príncipi. 7 Ora dunque, torna indietro e vattene in pace, per non rischiare di far qualcosa che sia sgradito ai príncipi dei Filistei». 8 Davide disse ad Achis: «Ma che ho mai fatto? Che cosa hai trovato nel tuo servo, in tutto il tempo che sono stato con te fino a oggi, perché io non debba andare a combattere contro i nemici del re, mio signore?» 9 Achis rispose a Davide, e disse: «Lo so; tu sei caro agli occhi miei come un angelo di Dio; ma i príncipi dei Filistei hanno detto: “Egli non deve salire con noi alla battaglia!” 10 Ora dunque, àlzati domani mattina di buon'ora, con i servi del tuo signore che sono venuti con te; alzatevi di buon mattino e, appena farà giorno, andatevene».
11 Davide dunque con la sua gente si alzò di buon'ora, per partire al mattino e tornare nel paese dei Filistei. E i Filistei salirono a Izreel.

The Philistines Reject David
29 (A)Now the Philistines had gathered all their forces at (B)Aphek. And the Israelites were encamped by (C)the spring that is in (D)Jezreel. 2 As (E)the lords of the Philistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were passing on in the rear (F)with Achish, 3 the commanders of the Philistines said, “What are these Hebrews doing here?” And Achish said to the commanders of the Philistines, “Is this not David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me (G)now for days and years, and since he deserted to me (H)I have found no fault in him to this day.” 4 But (I)the commanders of the Philistines were angry with him. And the commanders of the Philistines said to him, “Send the man back, that he may return (J)to the place to which you have assigned him. He shall not go down with us to battle, (K)lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Would it not be with the heads of the men here? 5 Is not this David, of whom they sing to one another in dances,
(L)‘Saul has struck down his thousands,
and David his ten thousands’?”
6 Then Achish called David and said to him, (M)“As the Lord lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that (N)you should march out and in with me in the campaign. For I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not approve of you. 7 So go back now; and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.” 8 And David said to Achish, “But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I entered your service until now, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?” 9 And Achish answered David and said, “I know that you are as blameless in my sight (O)as an angel of God. Nevertheless, (P)the commanders of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’ 10 Now then rise early in the morning (Q)with the servants of your lord who came with you, and start early in the morning, and depart as soon as you have light.” 11 So David set out with his men early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to (R)Jezreel.

Achish Sends David Back to Ziklag
29 The Philistines gathered(A) all their forces at Aphek,(B) and Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.(C) 2 As the Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men were marching at the rear(D) with Achish. 3 The commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?”
Achish replied, “Is this not David,(E) who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year,(F) and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him.”
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish and said, “Send(G) the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn(H) against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master’s favor than by taking the heads of our own men? 5 Isn’t this the David they sang about in their dances:
“‘Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands’?”(I)
6 So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day(J) you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers(K) don’t approve of you. 7 Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.”
8 “But what have I done?” asked David. “What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can’t I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Achish answered, “I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel(L) of God; nevertheless, the Philistine commanders(M) have said, ‘He must not go up with us into battle.’ 10 Now get up early, along with your master’s servants who have come with you, and leave(N) in the morning as soon as it is light.”
11 So David and his men got up early in the morning to go back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
