Hanna tackar Herren
2 Hanna bad och tackade Herren med dessa ord:Jag gläder mig i Herren! Han har välsignat mig! Nu har jag ett svar åt mina fiender, för Herren har löst mitt problem. Jag är så glad!
2 Ingen är helig som Herren! Det finns ingen annan Gud, ingen enda klippa som vår Gud.
3 Sluta upp med ert högmodiga och stolta tal och era stora ord!Herren vet vad ni har gjort, och han kommer att döma era handlingar.
4 Krigarnas bågar är sönderbrutna, men de som stapplade av svaghet är nu starka.
5 De som förut mådde väl svälter nu och de som förut var hungriga får nu mat.Den ofruktsamma kvinnan har nu sju barn, men hon som hade många barn tynar bort.
6 Herren dödar och Herren ger liv.
7 Några låter han vara fattiga och andra rika.En låter han falla, och en annan lyfter han upp.
8 Han lyfter upp de fattiga ur dammet på askhögen och behandlar dem som furstar.Han sätter dem på hedersplatserna, och de får ärva rikedomarna.Hela jorden vilar på den grund Herren byggt.
9 Han kommer att skydda sina gudfruktiga barn, men de onda kommer att tystas i mörkret.Ingen ska lyckas enbart genom egen styrka.
10 De som kämpar mot Herren kommer att brytas sönder. Han dundrar mot dem från himlen.Han dömer hela jorden.Han ger makt till sin kung och stor ära till sin smorde.
11 Därefter återvände Elkana till Rama utan Samuel, som blev en Herrens tjänare under prästen Eli.
Samuel i tjänst för Herren
12 Elis söner var onda män, som inte älskade Herren.
13-14 När någon offrade ett djur brukade de skicka ut en tjänare med en treuddig köttgaffel. Den stötte han ner i grytan medan köttet från det offrade djuret kokades, och krävde sedan att den bit som kom upp skulle tillhöra Elis söner. Detta råkade alla israeliter ut för som kom till Silo för att tillbe.
15 Ibland kom tjänaren till och med innan man förbränt fettet på altaret, och sa: Ge mig det råa köttet, inte det kokta, så att jag kan steka det åt prästen.
16 Om då mannen som offrade köttet svarade: Du får så mycket du vill ha, men först måste fettet brännas som lagen kräver, brukade tjänaren säga:Nej, ge det till mig nu, annars tar jag det med våld.
17 Denna synd var mycket stor i Herrens ögon. Den visade att man behandlade folkets offer utan respekt.
18 Samuel var Herrens tjänare, trots att han bara var ett barn, och han bar en linnemantel precis som prästen.
19 Varje år sydde hans mor en liten rock åt honom som hon överlämnade när hon kom med sin make för att offra.
20 Innan de återvände hem, brukade Eli välsigna Elkana och Hanna och be att Gud skulle ge dem flera barn som kunde ta platsen efter den son de hade gett till Herren.
21 Och Herren gav Hanna tre söner och två döttrar, medan Samuel växte upp i Herrens tjänst.
22 Eli hade nu blivit mycket gammal men var ändå uppmärksam på vad som hände runt omkring honom. Han fick till och med veta att hans söner förförde de unga kvinnorna som assisterade vid ingången till tabernaklet.
23-25 Jag har fått dåliga nyheter om vad ni gör, sa Eli till sina söner. Det är fruktansvärt att förleda Herrens folk till synd. Synd mot människor bestraffas strängt, men hur mycket mer kommer inte ni att straffas för den synd ni har begått mot Herren? Men de ville inte lyssna till sin far, och Herren hade redan planerat att döda dem.
26 Men den lille Samuel växte upp och var till glädje för både Gud och människor.En profet besöker Eli
27 En dag kom en profet till Eli med ett budskap från Herren: Visade jag inte min kraft när Israels barn var slavar i Egypten?
28 Utvalde jag inte er stamfar Levi bland alla hans bröder till att vara min präst, och att offra på mitt altare, bränna rökelse och bära prästkläder inför mig? Tilldelade jag inte era präster eldsoffren?
29 Varför är ni då så giriga efter alla de andra offer som förs fram till mig? Varför har du satt dina söner före mig? Både du och de har blivit feta av det bästa från mitt folks offer!
30 Därför förklarar jag, Herren, Israels Gud, att även om jag har lovat att din del av Levi stam alltid ska få vara mina präster, är det otänkbart att ni kan fortsätta att handla som ni gör! Jag kommer bara att ära dem som ärar mig, och jag kommer att förakta dem som föraktar mig.
31 Jag ska göra slut på din familj, så att ni inte längre kan tjäna som präster. Varenda familjemedlem kommer att dö i förtid.
32 Du kommer att bli avundsjuk på det välstånd som jag ska ge till mitt folk, men du och din familj ska få möta mycket av svårigheter och nöd. Ingen av er kommer att få ett långt liv.
33 De som lever kvar ska leva i sorg och klagan, och deras barn ska dödas med svärd.
34 Och för att bevisa att det jag har sagt kommer att slå in, ska dina två söner Hofni och Pinehas dö på samma dag!
35 Sedan ska jag låta en trofast präst uppstå, en som kommer att tjäna mig och göra som jag säger. Jag ska välsigna hans ättlingar, och hans familj ska för alltid vara präster åt mina kungar.
36 Då ska alla dina ättlingar böja sig för honom och tigga om pengar och bröd. Var och en kommer att säga: 'Var snäll och ge mig arbete bland prästerna, så att jag får tillräckligt att äta.' Herren kallar den unge Samuel

నా శత్రువులను నేను పరిహసించగలను.
నా విజయానికి మురిసిపోతున్నాను.
2 యెహోవా వంటి మరో పరిశుద్ధ దేవుడు లేడు.
నీవు తప్ప మరో దేవుడు లేడు!
మన దేవుని వంటి బండ[a] మరొకడు లేడు.
3 ఇక డంబాలు పలుకవద్దు!
గర్వపు మాటలు కట్టి పెట్టండి!
ఎందువల్లనంటే యెహోవా దేవునికి అంతా తెలుసు దేవుడు మనుష్యులను నడిపిస్తాడు,
వారికి తీర్పు తీరుస్తాడు.

11 తరువాత ఎల్కానా తన కుటుంబంతో కలిసి రామాలో తన ఇంటికి వెళ్లిపోయాడు. బాలుడు మాత్రం యాజకుడైన ఏలీ పర్యవేక్షణలో షిలోహులో యెహోవా సేవలో వుండిపోయాడు.
ఏలీ దుష్ట సంతానం-హొఫ్నీ, ఫీనెహాసు
12 ఏలీ కుమారులు చెడ్డవారు. వారు యెహోవాను లక్ష్యపెట్టలేదు. 13 యాజకులు ప్రజల పట్ల ఎలా ప్రవర్తించాలో వారు చింత చేయలేదు. ప్రజలు వచ్చినప్పుడు యాజకులు ఇలా చేయాలి. ఒక వ్యక్తి బలి ఇచ్చిన ప్రతిసారీ ఆ మాంసాన్ని యాజకుడు ఒక కుండలో ఉడకబెట్టాలి. అప్పుడు యాజకుని సేవకుడు మూడు మొనలు గల ఒక కొంకి గరిటెతో రావాలి. 14 యాజకుని సేవకుడు గరిటెను ఉడుకుతోన్న బాణలిలో గుచ్చి తీయాలి. అప్పుడా గరిటె కొనలకు పట్టుకొని ఎంత మాంసం వస్తుందో అది మాత్రం యాజకునికి చెందుతుంది. బలులు ఇవ్వటానికి షిలోహుకు వచ్చిన ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలకు యాజకులు చేయవలసిన విధి ఇదే. 15 కాని ఏలీ కుమారులు ఆ పద్ధతిని పాటించలేదు. కొవ్వును బలిపీఠం మీద దహించక మునుపే వారి సేవకులు బలులు ఇచ్చేవారి వద్దకు వెళ్లి “యాజకుని వంటకానికై కొంత మాంసం ఇవ్వమనీ, ఉడుకబెట్టిన మాంసం మీనుండి ఆయన తీసుకోడని అనేవారు.”
16 అయితే బలి ఇచ్చే వ్యక్తి గనుక కొవ్వును యధావిధిగా, “ముందు దహించిన తరువాత మీ ఇష్టం వచ్చినంత తీసుకోమని” అంటే యాజకుని సేవకుడు ఒప్పుకొనేవాడు కాదు. “అలా కాదు, ముందుగా మాంసం ఇవ్వండి. మీరు నాకు ఇవ్వక పోతే, బలవంతాన తీసుకోవలసి వస్తుంది!” అని బదులు చెప్పేవాడు.
17 ఈ విధంగా, యెహోవాకు అర్పించబడిన అర్పణలను వారు లక్ష్యపెట్టలేదని హొఫ్నీ, ఫీనెహాసులు వ్యక్తం చేసారు. ఇది చాలా చెడ్డపాపం.
18 కానీ సమూయేలు యెహోవాను సేవించాడు. సమూయేలు ఏఫోదు[b] ధరించిన ఒక బాల సహాయకుడు. 19 ప్రతి సంవత్సరం సమూయేలు తల్లి అతనికై ఒక చిన్న అంగీ తయారుచేసి, తన భర్తతో షిలోహుకు బలి అర్పించేందుకు వెళ్లినపుడు ఆ అంగీని సమూయేలు కొరకు తీసుకొని వెళ్లేది.
20 ఎల్కానాను, అతని భార్యను ఏలీ ఆశీర్వదించేవాడు: “హన్నా ప్రార్థన ఫలితంగా పుట్టిన వానిని మరల యెహోవా సేవకై ఇచ్చారు గనుక అతని స్థానాన్ని భర్తీ చేసే విధంగా హన్నాద్వారా యెహోవా మీకు పిల్లలను కలుగజేయుగాక.”

కుమారుల విషయంలో ఏలీ అసమర్థత
22 ఏలీ చాలా వృద్ధుడై పోయాడు. షిలోహుకు వచ్చే ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరి యెడల తన కుమారులు చేస్తున్న పనులను గూర్చి అతడు నిరంతరం వింటూనే వున్నాడు. పైగా సన్నిధి గుడారపు ద్వారం వద్ద పరిచర్యలు చేసే స్త్రీలతో తన కుమారులు శయనిస్తున్నారని కూడా ఏలీ విన్నాడు.
23 ఏలీ తన కుమారులతో, “మీరు చేసిన చెడ్డ కార్యాలను గూర్చి ఇక్కడ ప్రజలు నాతో చెప్పారు. మీరెందుకు ఈ చెడ్డపనులు చేస్తున్నారు? 24 నా కుమారులారా, ఈ చెడ్డపనులు చేయకండి. యెహోవా ప్రజలు మీ గురించి చెడుగా చెప్పుకుంటున్నారు. 25 ఒక వ్యక్తి మరో వ్యక్తి పట్ల అపచారం చేస్తే, దేవుడు ఒక వేళ అతనికి సహాయం చేయవచ్చు. అయితే ఒక వ్యక్తి యెహోవా పట్ల అపచారం చేస్తే ఇక వానికి దిక్కెవరు?” అని అడిగాడు.
అయినా ఏలీ కుమారులు తండ్రి సలహాను లెక్కచేయలేదు; కాబట్టి యెహోవా ఏలీ కుమారులను చంపటానికి నిర్ణయించాడు.
26 బాలుడైన సమూయేలు మాత్రం దేవుని దయయందును, మనుష్యుల దయయందును పెరుగుతూ వచ్చాడు.
ఏలీ కుటుంబ విషయంలో భయంకర ప్రవచనం
27 దేవుని మనిషి[c]– ఒకడు ఏలీ వద్దకు వచ్చాడు. ఆ దేవుని మనిషి ఇలా చెప్పాడు “ఈజిప్టు దేశంలో నీ పూర్వీకులు ఫరో ఇంటిలో బానిసలుగా ఉన్నప్పుడు వారికి నేను ప్రత్యక్షమయ్యాను. 28 ఇశ్రాయేలులో వున్న నీ పూర్వీకుని కుటుంబాన్ని నేను ఎన్నుకున్నాను. వారిని యాజకులుగా నియమించాను. నా బలిపీఠం వద్దకు వెళ్లి ధూపం వేయటానికి వారు ప్రత్యేక ఏఫోదు ధరించేలా కోరుకున్నాను. నీ తండ్రి కుటుంబీకులు ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలు అర్పించిన బలి మాంసాన్ని తీసుకునేలాగున చేశాను. 29 అయితే నీవు బలులను, కానుకలను ఎందువలన గౌరవించుట లేదు? నీవు నాకంటే నీ కుమారులనే ఎక్కువ గౌరవిస్తున్నావు. నా కొరకు ఇశ్రాయేలు ప్రజలు తెచ్చిన మాంసాన్ని అర్పణలలో మంచి వాటిని సంగ్రహించి క్రొవ్వెక్కి వున్నావు.”

Hannah’s Prayer
2 Then Hannah prayed and said:(A)
“My heart rejoices(B) in the Lord;
in the Lord my horn[a](C) is lifted high.
My mouth boasts(D) over my enemies,(E)
for I delight in your deliverance.
2 “There is no one holy(F) like(G) the Lord;
there is no one besides you;
there is no Rock(H) like our God.
3 “Do not keep talking so proudly
or let your mouth speak such arrogance,(I)
for the Lord is a God who knows,(J)
and by him deeds(K) are weighed.(L)
4 “The bows of the warriors are broken,(M)
but those who stumbled are armed with strength.(N)
5 Those who were full hire themselves out for food,
but those who were hungry(O) are hungry no more.
She who was barren(P) has borne seven children,
but she who has had many sons pines away.
6 “The Lord brings death and makes alive;(Q)
he brings down to the grave and raises up.(R)
7 The Lord sends poverty and wealth;(S)
he humbles and he exalts.(T)
8 He raises(U) the poor(V) from the dust(W)
and lifts the needy(X) from the ash heap;
he seats them with princes
and has them inherit a throne of honor.(Y)
“For the foundations(Z) of the earth are the Lord’s;
on them he has set the world.
9 He will guard the feet(AA) of his faithful servants,(AB)
but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.(AC)
“It is not by strength(AD) that one prevails;
10 those who oppose the Lord will be broken.(AE)
The Most High will thunder(AF) from heaven;
the Lord will judge(AG) the ends of the earth.
11 Then Elkanah went home to Ramah,(AJ) but the boy ministered(AK) before the Lord under Eli the priest.
Eli’s Wicked Sons
12 Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard(AL) for the Lord. 13 Now it was the practice(AM) of the priests that, whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat(AN) was being boiled 14 and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh. 15 But even before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the person who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast; he won’t accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.”
16 If the person said to him, “Let the fat(AO) be burned first, and then take whatever you want,” the servant would answer, “No, hand it over now; if you don’t, I’ll take it by force.”
17 This sin of the young men was very great in the Lord’s sight, for they[b] were treating the Lord’s offering with contempt.(AP)
18 But Samuel was ministering(AQ) before the Lord—a boy wearing a linen ephod.(AR) 19 Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him when she went up with her husband to offer the annual(AS) sacrifice. 20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, “May the Lord give you children by this woman to take the place of the one she prayed(AT) for and gave to[c] the Lord.” Then they would go home. 21 And the Lord was gracious to Hannah;(AU) she gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew(AV) up in the presence of the Lord.
22 Now Eli, who was very old, heard about everything(AW) his sons were doing to all Israel and how they slept with the women(AX) who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 23 So he said to them, “Why do you do such things? I hear from all the people about these wicked deeds of yours. 24 No, my sons; the report I hear spreading among the Lord’s people is not good. 25 If one person sins against another, God[d] may mediate for the offender; but if anyone sins against the Lord, who will(AY) intercede(AZ) for them?” His sons, however, did not listen to their father’s rebuke, for it was the Lord’s will to put them to death.
26 And the boy Samuel continued to grow(BA) in stature and in favor with the Lord and with people.(BB)
Prophecy Against the House of Eli
27 Now a man of God(BC) came to Eli and said to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Did I not clearly reveal myself to your ancestor’s family when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh? 28 I chose(BD) your ancestor out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense,(BE) and to wear an ephod(BF) in my presence. I also gave your ancestor’s family all the food offerings(BG) presented by the Israelites. 29 Why do you[e] scorn my sacrifice and offering(BH) that I prescribed for my dwelling?(BI) Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’
30 “Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.(BJ)’ But now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor,(BK) but those who despise(BL) me will be disdained.(BM) 31 The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your priestly house, so that no one in it will reach old age,(BN) 32 and you will see distress(BO) in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, no one in your family line will ever reach old age.(BP) 33 Every one of you that I do not cut off from serving at my altar I will spare only to destroy your sight and sap your strength, and all your descendants(BQ) will die in the prime of life.
34 “‘And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign(BR) to you—they will both die(BS) on the same day.(BT) 35 I will raise up for myself a faithful priest,(BU) who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed(BV) one always. 36 Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down before him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread and plead,(BW) “Appoint me to some priestly office so I can have food to eat.(BX)”’”

2 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
2 There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.
5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.
6 The Lord killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.
7 The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.
8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the Lord's, and he hath set the world upon them.
9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
10 The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the Lord shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.
11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the Lord before Eli the priest.
12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the Lord.
13 And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;
14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.
17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord.
18 But Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.
19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The Lord give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the Lord. And they went unto their own home.
21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.
22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.
24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the Lord's people to transgress.
25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the Lord, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the Lord would slay them.
26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord, and also with men.
27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?
28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?
29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
30 Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.
32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.
34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.
35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.
36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
