1 Samuele 10
La Nuova Diodati
10 Allora Samuele prese un vasetto d'olio e lo versò sul suo capo; poi lo baciò e disse: «Non ti ha l'Eterno unto, come capo della sua eredità?
2 Oggi, quando sarai partito da me, troverai due uomini presso il sepolcro di Rachele sul confine di Beniamino a Tseltsah. Essi ti diranno: «Le asine che sei andato a cercare sono state ritrovate; ora tuo padre ha smesso di essere in pensiero per le asine ed è preoccupato per voi, e va dicendo: "Che devo fare per mio figlio?".
3 Poi tu passerai oltre quel luogo e giungerai alla quercia di Tabor; là incontrerai tre uomini che salgono ad adorare DIO a Bethel: l'uno porterà tre capretti, l'altro porterà tre pani e il terzo porterà un otre di vino.
4 Essi ti saluteranno e ti daranno due pani, che riceverai dalla loro mano.
5 Poi arriverai alla collina di DIO, dov'è la guarnigione dei Filistei; e là, giungendo alla città, incontrerai un gruppo di profeti che scenderanno dall'alto luogo, preceduti da un'arpa, un tamburello, un flauto e una cetra, e che profetizzeranno.
6 Allora lo Spirito dell'Eterno ti investirà e profetizzerai con loro, e sarai cambiato in un altro uomo.
7 Quando questi segni ti saranno avvenuti, fa' ciò che l'occasione richiede perché DIO è con te.
8 Poi scenderai prima di me a Ghilgal; ed ecco io scenderò da te per offrire olocausti e immolare sacrifici di ringraziamento. Tu aspetterai sette giorni finché io venga da te e ti faccia sapere ciò che devi fare».
9 Non appena voltò le spalle per lasciare Samuele, DIO gli mutò il cuore in un altro, e tutti quei segni si avverarono in quello stesso giorno.
10 Come giunsero là alla collina, ecco venirgli incontro un gruppo di profeti; allora lo Spirito di DIO lo investì, ed egli si mise a profetizzare in mezzo a loro.
11 Allora tutti quelli che lo avevano conosciuto prima, vedendo che profetizzava con i profeti si dicevano l'un l'altro: «Cos'è avvenuto al figlio di Kish? E' anche Saul tra i profeti?».
12 Quindi uno del luogo rispose, dicendo: «Ma chi è il loro padre?». Per questo divenne proverbio il detto: «E' anche Saul tra i profeti?».
13 Come Saul ebbe finito di profetizzare, si recò all'alto luogo.
14 Poi lo zio di Saul chiese a lui e al suo servo: «Dove siete andati?». Egli rispose: «A cercare le asine; ma, vedendo che non c'erano, siamo andati da Samuele».
15 Lo zio di Saul soggiunse: «Raccontami, ti prego, ciò che vi ha detto Samuele».
16 Così Saul rispose a suo zio: «Egli ci ha assicurato che le asine erano state ritrovate». Ma non disse nulla di ciò che Samuele aveva detto riguardo al regno.
17 Poi Samuele convocò il popolo davanti all'Eterno a Mitspah,
18 e disse ai figli d'Israele: «Così dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: "Io feci uscire Israele dall'Egitto e vi liberai dalle mani degli Egiziani e dalle mani di tutti i regni che vi opprimevano.
19 Ma oggi voi avete rigettato il vostro DIO che vi salvò da tutte le vostre avversità e dalle vostre tribolazioni e gli dite: "Stabilisci su di noi un re!". Or dunque presentatevi davanti all'Eterno per tribù e per miglia».
20 Poi Samuele fece avvicinare tutte le tribú d'Israele, e fu scelta la tribú di Beniamino.
21 Fece quindi avvicinare la tribú di Beniamino per famiglie, e fu scelta la famiglia di Matri. Poi fu scelto Saul, figlio di Kish; lo cercarono, ma non fu trovato
22 Allora consultarono di nuovo l'Eterno: «E egli già venuto qui?». l'Eterno rispose: «Eccolo nascosto fra i bagagli.
23 Corsero a prenderlo di là; così egli si presentò in mezzo al popolo, ed era piú alto di tutta la gente dalle spalle in su.
24 Poi Samuele disse a tutto il popolo: «Vedete colui che l'Eterno ha scelto? Non c'è nessuno in tutto il popolo come lui. Così tutto il popolo mandò grida di gioia e disse: «Viva il re!».
25 Allora Samuele espose al popolo i diritti del regno e li scrisse in un libro, che depose davanti all'Eterno. Quindi Samuele rimandò tutto il popolo ciascuno a casa sua.
26 Anche Saul andò a casa sua a Ghibeah, e con lui andarono uomini valorosi ai quali DIO aveva toccato il cuore.
27 Ma alcuni uomini da nulla dissero: «Come può costui salvarci?. Così lo disprezzarono e non gli fecero alcun dono. Ma egli non disse nulla.

Tu avrai potere sul popolo del Signore e tu lo libererai dalle mani dei nemici che gli stanno intorno. Questo ti sarà il segno che proprio il Signore ti ha unto capo sulla sua casa: 2 oggi, quando sarai partito da me, troverai due uomini presso il sepolcro di Rachele sul confine con Beniamino in Zelzach. Essi ti diranno: Sono state ritrovate le asine che sei andato a cercare. Ecco tuo padre non bada più alla faccenda delle asine, ma è preoccupato di voi e va dicendo: Che devo fare per mio figlio? 3 Passerai in fretta di là e andrai oltre; quando arriverai alla quercia del Tabor, vi troverete tre uomini in viaggio per salire a Dio in Betel: uno porterà tre capretti, l'altro porterà tre pani rotondi, il terzo porterà un otre di vino. 4 Ti domanderanno se stai bene e ti daranno due pani, che tu prenderai dalle loro mani. 5 Giungerai poi a Gàbaa di Dio, dove c'è una guarnigione di Filistei e mentre entrerai in città, incontrerai un gruppo di profeti che scenderanno dall'altura preceduti da arpe, timpani, flauti e cetre, in atto di fare i profeti. 6 Lo spirito del Signore investirà anche te e ti metterai a fare il profeta insieme con loro e sarai trasformato in un altro uomo. 7 Quando questi segni che ti riguardano saranno accaduti, farai come vorrai, perché Dio sarà con te. 8 Tu poi scenderai a Gàlgala precedendomi. Io scenderò in seguito presso di te per offrire olocausti e immolare sacrifici di comunione. Sette giorni aspetterai, finché io verrò a te e ti indicherò quello che dovrai fare».
Ritorno di Saul
9 Ed ecco, quando quegli ebbe voltato le spalle per partire da Samuele, Dio gli mutò il cuore e tutti questi segni si verificarono il giorno stesso. 10 I due arrivarono là a Gàbaa ed ecco, mentre una schiera di profeti avanzava di fronte a loro, lo spirito di Dio lo investì e si mise a fare il profeta in mezzo a loro.
11 Allora quanti lo avevano conosciuto prima, vedendolo d'un tratto fare il profeta con i profeti, si dissero l'un l'altro fra la gente: «Che è accaduto al figlio di Kis? E' dunque anche Saul tra i profeti?». 12 Uno del luogo disse: «E chi è il loro padre?». Per questo passò in proverbio l'espressione: «E' dunque anche Saul tra i profeti?». 13 Quando ebbe terminato di profetare andò sull'altura. 14 Lo zio di Saul chiese poi a lui e al suo servo: «Dove siete andati?». Rispose: «A cercare le asine e, vedendo che non c'erano, ci siamo recati da Samuele». 15 Lo zio di Saul soggiunse: «Suvvia, raccontami quello che vi ha detto Samuele». 16 Saul rispose allo zio: «Ci ha assicurato che le asine erano state ritrovate». Ma non gli riferì il discorso del regno, che gli aveva tenuto Samuele.
Saul è sorteggiato re
17 Samuele radunò il popolo davanti a Dio in Mizpa 18 e disse a tutti gli Israeliti: «Dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Io ho fatto uscire Israele dall'Egitto e l'ho liberato dalla mano degli Egiziani e dalla mano di tutti i regni che vi opprimevano. 19 Ma voi oggi avete ripudiato il vostro Dio, il quale solo vi salva da tutti i vostri mali e da tutte le angosce. E avete detto: No, costituisci un re sopra di noi! Ora presentatevi a Dio distinti per tribù e per famiglie». 20 Samuele fece accostare ogni tribù d'Israele e fu sorteggiata la tribù di Beniamino. 21 Fece poi accostare la tribù di Beniamino distinta per famiglie e fu sorteggiata la famiglia di Matri. Fece allora venire la famiglia di Matri per singoli individui e fu sorteggiato Saul figlio di Kis. Si misero a cercarlo ma non si riuscì a trovarlo. 22 Allora consultarono di nuovo il Signore: «E' venuto qui l'uomo o no?». Rispose il Signore: «Eccolo nascosto in mezzo ai bagagli». 23 Corsero a prenderlo di là e fu presentato al popolo: egli sopravanzava dalla spalla in su tutto il popolo. 24 Samuele disse a tutta la folla: «Vedete dunque che l'ha proprio eletto il Signore, perché non c'è nessuno in tutto il popolo come lui». Tutto il popolo proruppe in un grido: «Viva il re!». 25 Samuele espose a tutto il popolo i diritti del regno e li scrisse in un libro che depositò davanti al Signore. Poi Samuele congedò tutto il popolo perché andasse ognuno a casa sua. 26 Anche Saul tornò a casa in Gàbaa e con lui si accompagnarono uomini valenti ai quali Dio aveva toccato il cuore. 27 Ma altri, individui spregevoli, dissero: «Potrà forse salvarci costui?». Così lo disprezzarono e non vollero portargli alcun dono.

10 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?
2 When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
4 And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.
5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:
6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.
9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.
11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?
12 And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?
13 And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
14 And Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.
15 And Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.
16 And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.
17 And Samuel called the people together unto the Lord to Mizpeh;
18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:
19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.
20 And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.
22 Therefore they enquired of the Lord further, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.
23 And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the Lord hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.
25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
26 And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.
27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

10 Then (A)Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, (B)and kissed him and said: “Is it not because (C)the Lord has anointed you commander over (D)His [a]inheritance? 2 When you have departed from me today, you will find two men by (E)Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin (F)at Zelzah; and they will say to you, ‘The donkeys which you went to look for have been found. And now your father has ceased caring about the donkeys and is worrying about (G)you, saying, “What shall I do about my son?” ’ 3 Then you shall go on forward from there and come to the terebinth tree of Tabor. There three men going up (H)to God at Bethel will meet you, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine. 4 And they will [b]greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall receive from their hands. 5 After that you shall come to the hill of God (I)where the Philistine garrison is. (T)Is Saul also among the prophets?” 12 Then a man from there answered and said, “But (U)who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb: “Is Saul also among the prophets?” 13 And when he had finished prophesying, he went to the high place.
14 Then Saul’s (V)uncle said to him and his servant, “Where did you go?”
So he said, “To look for the donkeys. When we saw that they were nowhere to be found, we went to Samuel.”
15 And Saul’s uncle said, “Tell me, please, what Samuel said to you.”
16 So Saul said to his uncle, “He told us plainly that the donkeys had been (W)found.” But about the matter of the kingdom, he did not tell him what Samuel had said.
Saul Proclaimed King
17 Then Samuel called the people together (X)to the Lord (Y)at Mizpah, 18 and said to the children of Israel, (Z)“Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all kingdoms and from those who oppressed you.’ 19 (AA)But you have today rejected your God, who Himself saved you from all your adversities and your tribulations; and you have said to Him, ‘No, set a king over us!’ Now therefore, present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your [d]clans.”
20 And when Samuel had (AB)caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen. 21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was chosen. And Saul the son of Kish was chosen. But when they sought him, he could not be found. 22 Therefore they (AC)inquired of the Lord further, “Has the man come here yet?”
And the Lord answered, “There he is, hidden among the equipment.”
23 So they ran and brought him from there; and when he stood among the people, (AD)he was taller than any of the people from his shoulders upward. 24 And Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him (AE)whom the Lord has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people?”
So all the people shouted and said, (AF)“Long[e] live the king!”
25 Then Samuel explained to the people (AG)the behavior of royalty, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house. 26 And Saul also went home (AH)to Gibeah; and valiant men went with him, whose hearts God had touched. 27 (AI)But some (AJ)rebels said, “How can this man save us?” So they despised him, (AK)and brought him no presents. But he [f]held his peace.
