Chivotului Domnului şi filistenii

După ce au capturat Chivotul lui Dumnezeu, filistenii l-au luat din Eben-Ezer şi l-au adus la Aşdod. Au luat Chivotul lui Dumnezeu şi l-au pus în templul lui Dagon[a], aşezându-l lângă acesta. Când s-au trezit dis-de-dimineaţă, aşdodiţii au văzut că Dagon era căzut cu faţa la pământ înaintea Chivotului Domnului. Ei l-au luat pe Dagon şi l-au pus înapoi la locul lui. În dimineaţa următoare însă, trezindu-se devreme, au văzut că Dagon era din nou căzut cu faţa la pământ înaintea Chivotului Domnului. De data aceasta, capul şi ambele mâini ale lui erau tăiate pe prag, numai trunchiul rămânând din el. De aceea, până în ziua de azi, preoţii lui Dagon şi toţi cei ce intră în templul lui din Aşdod nu calcă pe prag.

Mâna Domnului apăsa greu asupra celor din Aşdod, îngrozind şi lovind atât Aşdodul, cât şi împrejurimile sale cu bube[b]. Când bărbaţii din Aşdod au văzut ce se întâmplă, au zis: „Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel nu mai trebuie să rămână la noi căci mâna lui apasă asupra noastră şi asupra lui Dagon, zeul nostru.“ Astfel, au chemat la o întâlnire pe toţi domnitorii filistenilor şi i-au întrebat:

– Ce să facem cu Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel?

– Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel să fie dus la Gat! au răspuns ei.

Şi au dus acolo Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel. După ce l-au dus acolo, mâna Domnului a fost împotriva cetăţii, stârnind o panică foarte mare. Domnul a lovit oamenii din cetate, de la copil şi până la bătrân, cu o mulţime de bube[c]. 10 Prin urmare, au trimis Chivotul lui Dumnezeu la Ekron. Însă când a sosit Chivotul lui Dumnezeu în Ekron, cei din Ekron au început să ţipe spunând:

– Au adus la noi Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel ca să ne omoare pe noi şi pe poporul nostru!

11 Au convocat o întâlnire cu toţi domnitorii filistenilor şi le-au spus:

– Trimiteţi de la noi Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel ca să se întoarcă la locul său şi astfel să nu ne omoare pe noi şi pe poporul nostru – căci era o panică de moarte în toată cetatea, deoarece mâna Domnului apăsa foarte greu acolo. 12 Cei care nu mureau, erau loviţi cu bube, iar ţipătul cetăţii se înălţa până la cer.

När filistéerna hade tagit Guds ark, förde de den från Eben-Haeser till Asdod.

Men när asdoditerna bittida dagen därefter kommo dit, fingo de se Dagon ligga framstupa på jorden framför HERRENS ark. Då togo de Dagon och satte honom upp igen på hans plats.

Men när de dagen därefter åter kommo dit bittida om morgonen, fingo de ånyo se Dagon ligga framstupa på jorden framför HERRENS ark; och Dagons huvud och hans båda händer lågo avslagna på tröskeln, allenast fiskdelen satt kvar på honom.

I Asdod trampar därför ännu i dag ingen på Dagons tröskel, varken någon av Dagons präster, ej heller någon annan som går in i Dagons tempel.

Och HERRENS hand var tung över asdoditerna; han anställde förödelse bland dem, i det han slog dem med bölder, såväl i Asdod som inom tillhörande områden.

Då nu invånarna i Asdod sågo att så skedde, sade de: »Israels Guds ark får icke stanna hos oss, ty hans hand vilar hårt på oss och på vår gud Dagon.»

Och de sände bud och läto församla till sig alla filistéernas hövdingar och sade: »Vad skola vi göra med Israels Guds ark?» De svarade: »Israels Guds ark må flyttas till Gat.» Då flyttade de Israels Guds ark dit.

Men sedan de hade flyttat den dit, kom genom HERRENS hand en mycket stor förvirring i staden; han slog invånarna i staden, både små och stora, så att bölder slogo upp på dem.

10 Då sände de Guds ark till Ekron. Men när Guds ark kom till Ekron, ropade ekroniterna: »De hava flyttat Israels Guds ark till oss för att döda oss och vårt folk.»

11 Och de sände bud och läto för samla alla filistéernas hövdingar och sade: »Sänden bort Israels Guds ark, så att den får komma tillbaka till sin plats igen och icke dödar oss och vårt folk.» Ty en dödlig förvirring hade uppstått i hela staden; Guds hand låg mycket tung på den.

12 De av invånarna som icke dogo blevo slagna med bölder; och ropet från staden steg upp mot himmelen.

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.

When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.

But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.

And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

10 Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

And the Pelishtim (Philistines) captured the Aron HaElohim, and brought it from Even HaEzer unto Ashdod.

When the Pelishtim (Philistines) took the Aron HaElohim, they brought it into the Bais Dagon, and set it beside Dagon.

And when they of Ashdod arose early the next day, hinei, Dagon was fallen upon his face on the ground before the Aron Hashem. And they took Dagon, and returned him to his makom.

And when they arose baboker on the next day, hinei, Dagon was fallen upon his face on the ground before the Aron Hashem; and the rosh Dagon and both the kapot (palms) of his hands were cut off upon the miftan (threshold); only the trunk of Dagon was left to him.

Therefore neither the kohanim of Dagon, nor any that enter Bais Dagon, tread on the miftan (threshold) of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

But the Yad Hashem was heavy upon the Ashdodim, and He brought desolation, and struck them with techorim (tumors), even Ashdod and the vicinity thereof.

And when the anshei Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The Aron Elohei Yisroel shall not abide with us; for His Yad is hard upon us, and upon Dagon eloheinu.

They sent therefore and gathered all rulers of the Pelishtim (Philistines) unto them, and said, What shall we do with the Aron Elohei Yisroel? And they answered, Let the Aron Elohei Yisroel be brought about unto Gat. And they brought the Aron Elohei Yisroel about to there.

And it was so, that, after they had brought it about, the Yad Hashem was against the Ir with a mehumah gedolah me’od (a very great tumult, commotion); and He struck the anshei HaIr, both katon and gadol, so that techorim (tumors) broke out on them.

10 Therefore they sent the Aron HaElohim to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the Aron HaElohim came to Ekron, that the Ekronim cried out, saying, They have brought about the Aron Elohei Yisroel to us, to slay us and our people.

11 So they sent and gathered together all the rulers of the Pelishtim (Philistines), and said, Send away the Aron Elohei Yisroel, and let it return to its own makom, [see 2Chr 6:41], that it slay us not, and our people; for there was a mehumah (tumult, public panic) of mavet (death) throughout kol HaIr; the Yad HaElohim was very heavy there.

12 And the anashim that died not were struck with the techorim (tumors); and the outcry of the Ir went up to Shomayim.
