The Philistines and the Ark
5 Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it (A)from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of (B)Dagon[a] and set it by Dagon. 3 And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, (C)fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and (D)set it in its place again. 4 And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the Lord. (E)The head of Dagon and both the palms of its hands were broken off on the threshold; only [b]Dagon’s torso was left of it. 5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house (F)tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
6 But the (G)hand of the Lord was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and He (H)ravaged them and struck them with (I)tumors,[c] both Ashdod and its (J)territory. 7 And when the men of Ashdod saw how it was, they said, “The ark of the (K)God of Israel must not remain with us, for His hand is harsh toward us and Dagon our god.” 8 Therefore they sent and gathered to themselves all the (L)lords of the Philistines, and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?”
And they answered, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried away to (M)Gath.” So they carried the ark of the God of Israel away. 9 So it was, after they had carried it away, that (N)the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction; and He struck the men of the city, both small and great, [d]and tumors broke out on them.
10 Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. So it was, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought the ark of the God of Israel to us, to kill us and our people!” 11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its own place, so that it does not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there. 12 And the men who did not die were stricken with the tumors, and the (O)cry of the city went up to heaven.

Ang Kaban ng Tipan sa mga Filisteo
5 Nang makuha ng mga Filisteo ang kaban ng Diyos, ito ay kanilang dinala sa Asdod mula sa Ebenezer.
2 Pagkatapos ay kinuha ng mga Filisteo ang kaban ng Diyos at ipinasok sa bahay ni Dagon, at inilagay sa tabi ni Dagon.
3 Kinaumagahan, nang bumangong maaga ang mga taga-Asdod, si Dagon ay buwal na nakasubsob doon sa lupa sa harap ng kaban ng Panginoon. Kanilang kinuha si Dagon at muli siyang inilagay sa kanyang puwesto.
4 Subalit nang sila'y maagang bumangon kinaumagahan, si Dagon ay buwal na nakasubsob sa lupa sa harap ng kaban ng Panginoon. Ang ulo ni Dagon, gayundin ang kanyang mga kamay ay putol at nasa bungad ng pintuan; tanging ang katawan ni Dagon lamang ang naiwan sa kanya.
5 Dahil dito ang mga pari ni Dagon at ang lahat ng pumapasok sa bahay ni Dagon ay hindi tumutuntong sa bungad ng pintuan ni Dagon sa Asdod, hanggang sa araw na ito.
Ang mga Bayan ng Filisteo ay Pinarusahan
6 Ang kamay ng Panginoon ay mabigat sa mga taga-Asdod. Kanyang tinakot sila at sinaktan ng mga bukol, ang Asdod at ang mga nasasakupan nito.
7 Nang makita ng mga lalaki sa Asdod ang nangyayari ay kanilang sinabi, “Ang kaban ng Diyos ng Israel ay hindi dapat manatiling kasama natin sapagkat ang kanyang kamay ay mabigat sa atin at kay Dagon na ating diyos.”
8 Kaya't kanilang ipinatawag at tinipon ang lahat ng mga panginoon ng mga Filisteo at sinabi, “Ano ang ating gagawin sa kaban ng Diyos ng Israel?” At sila'y sumagot, “Dalhin sa Gat ang kaban ng Diyos ng Israel.” At kanilang dinala roon ang kaban ng Diyos ng Israel.
9 Subalit pagkatapos na kanilang madala, ang kamay ng Panginoon ay naging laban sa lunsod na nagdulot ng malaking ligalig. Sinaktan niya ang mga tao sa lunsod, maging bata o matanda, kaya't may mga bukol na tumubo sa kanila.
10 Kanilang ipinadala ang kaban ng Diyos sa Ekron. Subalit pagdating ng kaban ng Diyos sa Ekron, ang mga taga-Ekron ay sumigaw, “Kanilang dinala sa atin ang kaban ng Diyos ng Israel upang patayin tayo at ang ating taong-bayan.”
11 Kaya't ipinatawag nila at tinipon ang lahat ng panginoon ng mga Filisteo, at kanilang sinabi, “Ilayo ninyo ang kaban ng Diyos ng Israel at ibalik ninyo sa kanyang sariling lugar, upang huwag nito kaming patayin at ang aming taong-bayan.” Sapagkat nagkaroon ng nakakamatay na pagkakagulo[a] sa buong lunsod. Ang kamay ng Diyos ay lubhang mabigat doon.
12 Ang mga lalaking hindi namatay ay nagkaroon ng mga bukol, at ang daing ng lunsod ay umabot hanggang sa langit.

The Ark in Ashdod and Ekron
5 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer(A) to Ashdod.(B) 2 Then they carried the ark into Dagon’s temple and set it beside Dagon.(C) 3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen(D) on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. 4 But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! His head and hands had been broken(E) off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained. 5 That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter Dagon’s temple at Ashdod step on the threshold.(F)
6 The Lord’s hand(G) was heavy on the people of Ashdod and its vicinity; he brought devastation(H) on them and afflicted them with tumors.[a](I) 7 When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy on us and on Dagon our god.” 8 So they called together all the rulers(J) of the Philistines and asked them, “What shall we do with the ark of the god of Israel?”
They answered, “Have the ark of the god of Israel moved to Gath.(K)” So they moved the ark of the God of Israel.
9 But after they had moved it, the Lord’s hand was against that city, throwing it into a great panic.(L) He afflicted the people of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.[b] 10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron.(M)
As the ark of God was entering Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, “They have brought the ark of the god of Israel around to us to kill us and our people.” 11 So they called together all the rulers(N) of the Philistines and said, “Send the ark of the god of Israel away; let it go back to its own place, or it[c] will kill us and our people.” For death had filled the city with panic; God’s hand was very heavy on it. 12 Those who did not die(O) were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven.
