El Señor habla a Samuel
3 Mientras tanto, el niño Samuel servía al Señor ayudando a Elí. Ahora bien, en esos días los mensajes del Señor eran muy escasos y las visiones eran poco comunes.
2 Una noche, Elí, que para entonces estaba casi ciego, ya se había acostado. 3 La lámpara de Dios aún no se había apagado, y Samuel estaba dormido en el tabernáculo[a] cerca del arca de Dios. 4 De pronto el Señor llamó:
—¡Samuel!
—Sí—respondió Samuel—. ¿Qué quiere?
5 Se levantó y corrió hasta donde estaba Elí.
—Aquí estoy. ¿Me llamó usted?
—Yo no te llamé—dijo Elí—. Vuelve a la cama.
Entonces, Samuel se volvió a acostar. 6 Luego, el Señor volvió a llamar:
—¡Samuel!
Nuevamente Samuel se levantó y fue a donde estaba Elí.
—Aquí estoy. ¿Me llamó usted?
—Yo no te llamé, hijo mío—respondió Elí—. Vuelve a la cama.
7 Samuel todavía no conocía al Señor, porque nunca antes había recibido un mensaje de él. 8 Así que el Señor llamó por tercera vez, y una vez más Samuel se levantó y fue a donde estaba Elí.
—Aquí estoy. ¿Me llamó usted?
En ese momento Elí se dio cuenta de que era el Señor quien llamaba al niño. 9 Entonces le dijo a Samuel:
—Ve y acuéstate de nuevo y, si alguien vuelve a llamarte, di: “Habla, Señor, que tu siervo escucha”.
Así que Samuel volvió a su cama. 10 Y el Señor vino y llamó igual que antes:
—¡Samuel! ¡Samuel!
Y Samuel respondió:
—Habla, que tu siervo escucha.
11 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Samuel:
—Estoy por hacer algo espantoso en Israel. 12 Llevaré a cabo todas mis amenazas contra Elí y su familia, de principio a fin. 13 Le advertí que viene juicio sobre su familia para siempre, porque sus hijos blasfeman a Dios[b] y él no los ha disciplinado. 14 Por eso juré que los pecados de Elí y los de sus hijos jamás serán perdonados ni por medio de sacrificios ni ofrendas.
Samuel, vocero del Señor
15 Entonces Samuel se quedó en la cama hasta la mañana; luego se levantó y abrió las puertas del tabernáculo,[c] como de costumbre. Tenía miedo de contarle a Elí lo que el Señor le había dicho. 16 Pero Elí lo llamó:
—Samuel, hijo mío.
—Aquí estoy—respondió Samuel.
17 —¿Qué te dijo el Señor? Dímelo todo. ¡Y que el Señor te castigue, y aun te mate, si me ocultas algo!
18 Entonces Samuel le contó todo a Elí; no le ocultó nada.
—Es la voluntad del Señor—respondió Elí—. Que él haga lo que mejor le parezca.
19 El Señor estaba con Samuel mientras crecía, y todo lo que Samuel decía se cumplía. 20 Entonces todo Israel, desde Dan en el norte hasta Beerseba en el sur, supo que Samuel había sido confirmado como profeta del Señor. 21 El Señor siguió apareciéndose en Silo y le daba mensajes a Samuel allí en el tabernáculo.

Jehová llama a Samuel
3 El joven Samuel ministraba a Jehová en presencia de Elí; y la palabra de Jehová escaseaba en aquellos días; no había visión con frecuencia.
2 Y aconteció un día, que estando Elí acostado en su aposento, cuando sus ojos comenzaban a oscurecerse de modo que no podía ver, 3 Samuel estaba durmiendo en el templo de Jehová, donde estaba el arca de Dios; y antes que la lámpara de Dios fuese apagada, 4 Jehová llamó a Samuel; y él respondió: Heme aquí. 5 Y corriendo luego a Elí, dijo: Heme aquí; ¿para qué me llamaste? Y Elí le dijo: Yo no he llamado; vuelve y acuéstate. Y él se volvió y se acostó. 6 Y Jehová volvió a llamar otra vez a Samuel. Y levantándose Samuel, vino a Elí y dijo: Heme aquí; ¿para qué me has llamado? Y él dijo: Hijo mío, yo no he llamado; vuelve y acuéstate. 7 Y Samuel no había conocido aún a Jehová, ni la palabra de Jehová le había sido revelada. 8 Jehová, pues, llamó la tercera vez a Samuel. Y él se levantó y vino a Elí, y dijo: Heme aquí; ¿para qué me has llamado? Entonces entendió Elí que Jehová llamaba al joven. 9 Y dijo Elí a Samuel: Ve y acuéstate; y si te llamare, dirás: Habla, Jehová, porque tu siervo oye. Así se fue Samuel, y se acostó en su lugar.
10 Y vino Jehová y se paró, y llamó como las otras veces: ¡Samuel, Samuel! Entonces Samuel dijo: Habla, porque tu siervo oye. 11 Y Jehová dijo a Samuel: He aquí haré yo una cosa en Israel, que a quien la oyere, le retiñirán ambos oídos. 12 Aquel día yo cumpliré contra Elí todas las cosas que he dicho sobre su casa, desde el principio hasta el fin. 13 Y le mostraré que yo juzgaré su casa para siempre, por la iniquidad que él sabe; porque sus hijos han blasfemado a Dios, y él no los ha estorbado. 14 Por tanto, yo he jurado a la casa de Elí que la iniquidad de la casa de Elí no será expiada jamás, ni con sacrificios ni con ofrendas.
15 Y Samuel estuvo acostado hasta la mañana, y abrió las puertas de la casa de Jehová. Y Samuel temía descubrir la visión a Elí. 16 Llamando, pues, Elí a Samuel, le dijo: Hijo mío, Samuel. Y él respondió: Heme aquí. 17 Y Elí dijo: ¿Qué es la palabra que te habló? Te ruego que no me la encubras; así te haga Dios y aun te añada, si me encubrieres palabra de todo lo que habló contigo. 18 Y Samuel se lo manifestó todo, sin encubrirle nada. Entonces él dijo: Jehová es; haga lo que bien le pareciere.
19 Y Samuel creció, y Jehová estaba con él, y no dejó caer a tierra ninguna de sus palabras. 20 Y todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, conoció que Samuel era fiel profeta de Jehová. 21 Y Jehová volvió a aparecer en Silo; porque Jehová se manifestó a Samuel en Silo por la palabra de Jehová.

3 Now (A)the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And (B)the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation. 2 And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow (C)so dim that he could not see, 3 and before (D)the lamp of God went out in the [a]tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down, 4 that the Lord called Samuel. And he answered, “Here I am!” 5 So he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.”
And he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” And he went and lay down.
6 Then the Lord called yet again, “Samuel!”
So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” 7 (Now Samuel (E)did not yet know the Lord, nor was the word of the Lord yet revealed to him.)
8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.”
Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, (F)‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”
11 Then the Lord said to Samuel: “Behold, I will do something in Israel (G)at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle. 12 In that day I will perform against Eli (H)all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end. 13 (I)For I have told him that I will (J)judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because (K)his sons made themselves vile, and he (L)did not [b]restrain them. 14 And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house (M)shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.”
15 So Samuel lay down until [c]morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision. 16 Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son!”
He answered, “Here I am.”
17 And he said, “What is the word that the Lord spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. (N)God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that He said to you.” 18 Then Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, (O)“It is the Lord. Let Him do what seems good to Him.”
19 So Samuel (P)grew, and (Q)the Lord was with him (R)and let none of his words [d]fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel (S)from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel had been [e]established as a prophet of the Lord. 21 Then the Lord appeared again in Shiloh. For the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by (T)the word of the Lord.
