Los filisteos no confían en David
29 1-2 Los filisteos reunieron todo su ejército en Afec. Sus jefes marchaban al frente de grupos de cien y de mil soldados. Los israelitas, por su parte, acamparon cerca del arroyo que está en Jezreel.
Cuando los filisteos vieron que al final de su ejército pasaba el rey Aquís junto con David y sus hombres, 3 le gritaron:
—¿Qué hacen aquí esos israelitas?
Y Aquís les contestó:
—Vienen con David, el que era ayudante de Saúl, el rey de Israel. David se apartó de Saúl, y hace ya más de un año que está conmigo. Desde entonces ha sido muy fiel. No tengo nada que decir en su contra.
4 Pero los jefes de los filisteos se enojaron mucho y le exigieron:
—Dile que se vaya de aquí, y que regrese a su país con todos sus hombres. ¿No te das cuenta de que podría volverse nuestro enemigo en la batalla? Con tal de ganarse otra vez la simpatía de Saúl, sería capaz de matar a nuestros soldados.
5 »Toma en cuenta que de él habla la canción: “Saúl mató a mil soldados, pero David mató a diez mil”.
6 Aquís llamó entonces a David, y le dijo:
—Te juro por Dios que yo no tengo nada contra ti. Desde el día que llegaste hasta hoy, tú has sido fiel conmigo. Pero los jefes de los filisteos no confían en ti. 7 Así que regresa en paz, y no hagas enojar a los jefes del ejército.
8 Pero David protestó:
—¿De qué se me acusa? ¿En qué he ofendido a Su Majestad desde que empecé a servirle hasta hoy? ¿Por qué no me permite usted pelear contra sus enemigos?
9 Y Aquís le volvió a decir:
—Yo no tengo nada contra ti. En mi opinión, tú eres tan bueno como un ángel. Pero los jefes de los filisteos no quieren que vayas con nosotros a la batalla.
10 »Yo te agradecería que mañana temprano, en cuanto salga el sol, tú y tus hombres regresen a la ciudad que les di.
11 De modo que, al amanecer, David y sus hombres regresaron a la tierra de los filisteos. Mientras tanto, los filisteos se dirigieron a Jezreel.

29 Los filisteos reunieron a todas sus tropas en Afec. Los israelitas, por su parte, acamparon junto al manantial que está en Jezrel. 2 Los jefes de los filisteos avanzaban en compañías de cien y de mil soldados, seguidos de Aquis y de David y sus hombres.
3 —Y estos hebreos, ¿qué hacen aquí? —preguntaron los comandantes filisteos.
Aquis respondió:
—¿No se dan cuenta de que este es David, quien antes estuvo al servicio de Saúl, rey de Israel? Hace ya más de un año que está conmigo, y desde el primer día que se unió a nosotros no he visto nada que me haga desconfiar de él.
4 Pero los comandantes filisteos, enojados con Aquis, le exigieron:
—Despídelo; que regrese al lugar que le diste. No dejes que nos acompañe en la batalla, no sea que en medio del combate se vuelva contra nosotros. ¿Qué mejor manera tendría de reconciliarse con su señor, que llevándole las cabezas de estos soldados? 5 ¿Acaso no es este el David por quien danzaban, y en sus cantos decían:
«Saúl mató a sus miles;
pero David, a sus diez miles»?
6 Ante esto, Aquis llamó a David y dijo:
—Tan cierto como que el Señor vive, tú eres un hombre honrado y me gustaría que me acompañaras en esta campaña. Desde el día en que llegaste, no he visto nada que me haga desconfiar de ti. Pero los jefes filisteos te miran con recelo. 7 Así que, con mis mejores deseos, vuélvete a tu casa y no hagas nada que les desagrade.
8 —Pero ¿qué es lo que he hecho? —reclamó David—. ¿Qué falla ha visto usted en este servidor suyo desde el día en que entré a su servicio hasta hoy? ¿Por qué no me permiten luchar contra los enemigos de mi señor el rey?
9 —Ya lo sé —respondió Aquis—. Para mí tú eres como un ángel de Dios. Sin embargo, los comandantes filisteos han decidido que no vayas con nosotros a la batalla. 10 Por lo tanto, levántense mañana temprano, tú y los siervos de tu señor que vinieron contigo, y váyanse con la primera luz del día.
11 Así que al día siguiente David y sus hombres se levantaron temprano para regresar al país filisteo. Por su parte, los filisteos avanzaron hacia Jezrel.

The Philistines Reject David
29 Then (A)the Philistines gathered together all their armies (B)at Aphek, and the Israelites encamped by a fountain which is in Jezreel. 2 And the (C)lords of the Philistines [a]passed in review by hundreds and by thousands, but (D)David and his men passed in review at the rear with Achish. 3 Then the princes of the Philistines said, “What are these Hebrews doing here?”
And Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, “Is this not David, the servant of Saul king of Israel, who has been with me (E)these days, or these years? And to this day I have (F)found no fault in him since he defected to me.”
4 But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; so the princes of the Philistines said to him, (G)“Make this fellow return, that he may go back to the place which you have appointed for him, and do not let him go down with us to (H)battle, lest (I)in the battle he become our adversary. For with what could he reconcile himself to his master, if not with the heads of these (J)men? 5 Is this not David, (K)of whom they sang to one another in dances, saying:
(L)‘Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands’?”
6 Then Achish called David and said to him, “Surely, as the Lord lives, you have been upright, and (M)your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight. For to this day (N)I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me. Nevertheless the lords do not favor you. 7 Therefore return now, and go in peace, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.”
8 So David said to Achish, “But what have I done? And to this day what have you found in your servant as long as I have been with you, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Then Achish answered and said to David, “I know that you are as good in my sight (O)as an angel of God; nevertheless (P)the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’ 10 Now therefore, rise early in the morning with your master’s servants (Q)who have come with [b]you. And as soon as you are up early in the morning and have light, depart.”
11 So David and his men rose early to depart in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines. (R)And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
