29 Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Aphek, et Israël campa près de la source de Jizreel.
2 Les princes des Philistins s'avancèrent avec leurs centaines et leurs milliers, et David et ses gens marchaient à l'arrière-garde avec Akisch.
3 Les princes des Philistins dirent: Que font ici ces Hébreux? Et Akisch répondit aux princes des Philistins: N'est-ce pas David, serviteur de Saül, roi d'Israël? il y a longtemps qu'il est avec moi, et je n'ai pas trouvé la moindre chose à lui reprocher depuis son arrivée jusqu'à ce jour.
4 Mais les princes des Philistins s'irritèrent contre Akisch, et lui dirent: Renvoie cet homme, et qu'il retourne dans le lieu où tu l'as établi; qu'il ne descende pas avec nous sur le champ de bataille, afin qu'il ne soit pas pour nous un ennemi pendant le combat. Et comment cet homme rentrerait-il en grâce auprès de son maître, si ce n'est au moyen des têtes de nos gens?
5 N'est-ce pas ce David pour qui l'on chantait en dansant: Saül a frappé ses mille, Et David ses dix mille?
6 Akisch appela David, et lui dit: L'Éternel est vivant! tu es un homme droit, et j'aime à te voir aller et venir avec moi dans le camp, car je n'ai rien trouvé de mauvais en toi depuis ton arrivée auprès de moi jusqu'à ce jour; mais tu ne plais pas aux princes.
7 Retourne donc et va-t'en en paix, pour ne rien faire de désagréable aux yeux des princes des Philistins.
8 David dit à Akisch: Mais qu'ai-je fait, et qu'as-tu trouvé en ton serviteur depuis que je suis auprès de toi jusqu'à ce jour, pour que je n'aille pas combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi?
9 Akisch répondit à David: Je le sais, car tu es agréable à mes yeux comme un ange de Dieu; mais les princes des Philistins disent: Il ne montera point avec nous pour combattre.
10 Ainsi lève-toi de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton maître qui sont venus avec toi; levez-vous de bon matin, et partez dès que vous verrez la lumière.
11 David et ses gens se levèrent de bonne heure, pour partir dès le matin, et retourner dans le pays des Philistins. Et les Philistins montèrent à Jizreel.

29 Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Aphek, et Israël installa son camp près de la source de Jizreel. 2 Les princes des Philistins s'avancèrent avec leurs centaines et leurs milliers, tandis que David et ses hommes marchaient à l'arrière-garde avec Akish. 3 Les princes des Philistins dirent: «Que font ici ces Hébreux?» Akish leur répondit: «N'est-ce pas David, le serviteur de Saül, roi d'Israël? Il y a longtemps qu'il est avec moi et je n'ai rien trouvé à lui reprocher depuis son arrivée jusqu'à aujourd’hui.» 4 Mais les princes des Philistins s'irritèrent contre Akish et lui dirent: «Renvoie cet homme! Qu'il retourne là où tu l'as installé et ne descende pas avec nous sur le champ de bataille. Il risquerait d’être un ennemi pour nous pendant le combat. Comment cet homme pourrait-il rentrer en grâce auprès de son maître, si ce n'est en lui apportant la tête de nos hommes? 5 N'est-ce pas en l’honneur de ce David que l'on chantait en dansant: ‘Saül a frappé ses 1000, et David ses 10'000’?»
6 Akish appela David et lui dit: «L'Eternel est vivant! Tu es un homme droit et j'aime te voir aller et venir avec moi dans le camp, car je n'ai rien trouvé de mal en toi depuis ton arrivée chez moi jusqu'à aujourd’hui. Mais tu ne plais pas aux princes. 7 Repars donc, va-t'en en paix, pour ne rien faire qui déplaise aux princes des Philistins.» 8 David dit à Akish: «Mais qu'ai-je fait et qu'as-tu trouvé chez moi, ton serviteur, depuis que je suis avec toi jusqu'à aujourd’hui, pour que je ne puisse pas aller combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi?» 9 Akish répondit à David: «Je le sais bien, car tu me plais autant qu’un ange de Dieu. Mais les princes des Philistins refusent que tu montes avec eux au combat. 10 Par conséquent lève-toi de bon matin, ainsi que les serviteurs de ton maître qui sont venus avec toi. Levez-vous de bon matin et partez dès qu’il fera jour.»
11 David et ses hommes se levèrent de bonne heure pour partir dès le matin et retourner dans le pays des Philistins. Quant aux Philistins, ils montèrent à Jizreel.

29 Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek: and the Israelites pitched by a fountain which is in Jezreel.
2 And the lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds, and by thousands: but David and his men passed on in the rereward with Achish.
3 Then said the princes of the Philistines, What do these Hebrews here? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines, Is not this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, which hath been with me these days, or these years, and I have found no fault in him since he fell unto me unto this day?
4 And the princes of the Philistines were wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an adversary to us: for wherewith should he reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
5 Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
6 Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the Lord liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the lords favour thee not.
7 Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the lords of the Philistines.
8 And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my lord the king?
9 And Achish answered and said to David, I know that thou art good in my sight, as an angel of God: notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.
10 Wherefore now rise up early in the morning with thy master's servants that are come with thee: and as soon as ye be up early in the morning, and have light, depart.
11 So David and his men rose up early to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

Achish Sends David Back to Ziklag
29 The Philistines gathered(A) all their forces at Aphek,(B) and Israel camped by the spring in Jezreel.(C) 2 As the Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, David and his men were marching at the rear(D) with Achish. 3 The commanders of the Philistines asked, “What about these Hebrews?”
Achish replied, “Is this not David,(E) who was an officer of Saul king of Israel? He has already been with me for over a year,(F) and from the day he left Saul until now, I have found no fault in him.”
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish and said, “Send(G) the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn(H) against us during the fighting. How better could he regain his master’s favor than by taking the heads of our own men? 5 Isn’t this the David they sang about in their dances:
“‘Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his tens of thousands’?”(I)
6 So Achish called David and said to him, “As surely as the Lord lives, you have been reliable, and I would be pleased to have you serve with me in the army. From the day(J) you came to me until today, I have found no fault in you, but the rulers(K) don’t approve of you. 7 Now turn back and go in peace; do nothing to displease the Philistine rulers.”
8 “But what have I done?” asked David. “What have you found against your servant from the day I came to you until now? Why can’t I go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Achish answered, “I know that you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel(L) of God; nevertheless, the Philistine commanders(M) have said, ‘He must not go up with us into battle.’ 10 Now get up early, along with your master’s servants who have come with you, and leave(N) in the morning as soon as it is light.”
11 So David and his men got up early in the morning to go back to the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.

The Philistines Reject David
29 Then (A)the Philistines gathered together all their armies (B)at Aphek, and the Israelites encamped by a fountain which is in Jezreel. 2 And the (C)lords of the Philistines [a]passed in review by hundreds and by thousands, but (D)David and his men passed in review at the rear with Achish. 3 Then the princes of the Philistines said, “What are these Hebrews doing here?”
And Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, “Is this not David, the servant of Saul king of Israel, who has been with me (E)these days, or these years? And to this day I have (F)found no fault in him since he defected to me.”
4 But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; so the princes of the Philistines said to him, (G)“Make this fellow return, that he may go back to the place which you have appointed for him, and do not let him go down with us to (H)battle, lest (I)in the battle he become our adversary. For with what could he reconcile himself to his master, if not with the heads of these (J)men? 5 Is this not David, (K)of whom they sang to one another in dances, saying:
(L)‘Saul has slain his thousands,
And David his ten thousands’?”
6 Then Achish called David and said to him, “Surely, as the Lord lives, you have been upright, and (M)your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight. For to this day (N)I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me. Nevertheless the lords do not favor you. 7 Therefore return now, and go in peace, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.”
8 So David said to Achish, “But what have I done? And to this day what have you found in your servant as long as I have been with you, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”
9 Then Achish answered and said to David, “I know that you are as good in my sight (O)as an angel of God; nevertheless (P)the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’ 10 Now therefore, rise early in the morning with your master’s servants (Q)who have come with [b]you. And as soon as you are up early in the morning and have light, depart.”
11 So David and his men rose early to depart in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines. (R)And the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
